How?

This morning was odd, my bike started up fine in neutral, as i always switch it off in neutral too, I grab the clutch and start it up as I do from habit in case it's in first, but releasing the clutch it stalls - But it was in neutral

How can this happen? Even weirder I tried it again and it stalled like 3 times in neutral when I released the clutch...then it wouldnt start up properly! Made the chokey chufchuff noise and didnt start...
First time it's been like this, but I just gave it some revs as I tried to start it and it was fine, and rode the same as ever.

I've stopped in neutral a couple of times and released the clutch and its jolted forwards and stalled too...
Is it just a 'false neutral' or?

I wouldn't want it to be a symptom of an underlying issue

Didn't really want to post a thread about it as I don't think it's that major, but noones in chat and I cant access it from work anyway Crying or Very sad

I worry about my gearbox, especially after hearing YBRs can get angry gearboxes

Confused

Neutral light isn't always correct. It probably wasn't properly in neutral.

Was it not just cold?

Also, starting with the clutch held in. I'm sure on your bike even if you tried starting it in gear with clutch out it wouldn't let you as a safety feature.

This happens quite often when the engine oil level gets a bit low or is old and in need of changing. Or it could be that your clutch cable needs some adjustment. Thumbs Up

What about sidestand switch?

Does it jump when it stalls or just cuts off?

Make sure you're not clutch-dumping either. Ease the clutch out like you would when changing gears.

Sounds more like you weren't in Neutral properly. i.e. enough for the light to show but not enough for the gear to engaged properly.

Is a problem I have now and then on my YBR too Smile

Remember the Neutral light just informs you that the bulb is working.

True, when I was riding the YBR, sometimes it stalled when I released the clutch. Embarassed

I see, the light is a light then, was probably in second actually Thinking

As i usually pull into my house in second and kick it up gently to neutral...

Makes sense Embarassed

It wasn't the side stand or anything, I can tell when its that because the oil yellow light thing comes on and it starts beeping at me Thumbs Up

Just gear faggery and neutral light lying it seems Very Happy

It's called a false neutral, happens on a lot of bikes.
Check if it's in geaar by trying to roll the bike forward.
