Sorry, you'll just need to be patient, keep cash to hand and don't dick around when one does come up. A cheap decent bike at this time of year - in this weather - won't be available tomorrow. I'm about ready to brick my workmate in the bonce, he's missed so many bikes by prevaricating.
[UPDATE]
Oh, and ask around in meatspace. People with bikes know people with bikes. Said workmate has just this second been offered by word of mouth a mint GT125R in the fastest colour, (genuinely) looked after from new by a professional mechanic, at a "quick sale" price. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If you can be patient...
Update to the update, a 2010 1800 mile GT125R appeared on Gumtree at £1600 at 9am this morning, and is already sold. Not "bloke coming to look", not "deposit down", but "gone, phone's been ringing off the hook, need to get that advert down".
Seems to be a bit of a feeding frenzy. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

With respect, this isn't 1 or 2 years back. It might be different round your gaff, but Japanese/Korean 125s seem to be shifting quicker than SS outfits at a Max Mosley party.
We might need to wait for more typical UK weather to get bargains again. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

interesting thread. Local dealer in Accy wants £1660 for an 09 plate ybr125 with 8k miles and no service history. Although price includes CBT I think it's a little steep. So prepared a list of newer or lower mileage or just plain cheaper bikes in usual places mcn, autotrader etc to bargain with. Will try to lower price or blag crash bars or flyscreen or something. Prob more chance with something that won't cost them cash like free labour on next service i did think about private sale but i'm not a practical person one not too sure of what to look out for except twiste subframe lol ____________________ Cheers

I have a fancy map; I have just stuck a pin in RG21 (Basingstoke) and put a 100 mile proximity circle around it.
You are trying to tell us, that there are NO £1300 YBR125's ANYWHERE in Southern England or the Midlands!
That radius covers aproximately half the area of England, and 3/4 of its population!!!!!!
Bikes wont fall into your lap, while you sit at a computer screen; you need to do a lot of net trawling and not just e-bay, Auto-trader & gumtree, but look for stuff andertised on the forums; on local interest sites. You need to get out, look in paper-shop windows; super-market message boards; get the local free-papers; 'put the word out' you are looking for a bike, to use the 'grape-vine' of freinds of freinds of family & work collegues.
You need to be patient; you need to have the cash ready & to hand, so that you can act swiftly & decicively when anything turns up.
And you need to be prepared to travel to view, and more than one or two bikes. Which may mean calling in, or earning favours for lifts.
You are hunting for a second hand bike, in the hope of getting something for HALF it's 'Retail' price.
You dont get anything for 'nothing' in this world; so if you want that 'saving' you have to suffer the inconvenience of not being able to walk into a show-room and get 'customer service'; as well as all the other stuff you get with a new bike, and be prepared to put in some effort, for the saving. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

It is worth the wait mate.
After about 3 weeks of looking at a collection of used Aprilia's, Honda's and Yamaha's, I'm finally about to close a deal for a 2007 Honda CG, with under 7k miles and a Givi top box for £1250.
Patience is very much a virtue.
Just keep doing what you're doing, if you can expand your radius to include London or your nearby city you'll be sure to find a lot more (though that is easy for me to say, as I'm in West Essex!) ____________________ CBT done - 24/03/2012, theory test done - 03/04/2012.. OK, are you buying a bike or not?
If you are, work out how much you can afford to spend, and get that in cash. Until you have that money in your hand, you're not a serious buyer.
Then go and see some bikes. They're not going to come to you, and clicking a mouse isn't getting it done.
If you see a bike that you like at a price that you like with the documentation in order, an MOT and road tax, then offer £200 less than they're asking and start haggling.
It's that easy. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
