im going to see this bike later today after work

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-Honda-CBR600-600cc-WHITE-/330697934540?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4cff2206cc

bar looking at things such as tyres, brakes, seat condition, and any exhaust leaks what else should i look for?

ive been told to ask about when the chain and sprocket were last changed or if they have been and to see when the carbs were last balanced? i think thats right and valve clearances of this could be a pricey bike

Reg/Rec history
Cam chain tensioner noises

General service history and crash history aside, there's not that much that goes wrong with CBR's. Also worth checking whether the suspension has had any kind of overhaul or whether you're going to be replacing fork seals / oil etc to get it back up to condition.

"How much power will it make once I've restricted it to 25kW?"

Do you really want to pay the insurance on that - and then like as not drop it - while going no faster than you would on any other 25kW bike?

First thing I would look for is a discount on the price. £2k is too high for that, but saying that someone will probably buy it still.

It has potentially done 450 odd laps of the TT circuit at that mileage...

I sold my 39k miles late 1997 bike in pretty reasonable condition, new chain and sprocket, new tyres, for £1200.

As noted in your insurance thread, there's a 99 SV650 for £680 fixed price within 20 miles of you. Which 25kW bike is going to be quicker?

Which is going to be better when they inevitably fall out... a tractor or a bike?

Depends if its your first big bike or not, if it is, its probably not the best for a first.
Although if it was me id definately buy that ninja over the everpriced cbr Thumbs Up

I'd be looking for the newer CBRs personally as I prefer the look, nothing wrong the the Kawasaki though...go view it, chat about price, see if its for you.

Not quite sure you've given this much thought to be honest. The insurance on a ninja is going to be a huge difference to that of an SV. I'd even bet it'll be more than a CBR. If it's going to be restricted anyway, just go for something that will get the job done and won't cost you the earth.

There's no point having a 100+hp supersports bike, paying through the nose for the privilege and having it restricted.

Or you could have a bike like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-DAYTONA-955I-MOTORCYCLE-/290692830365?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43aea4949d

reasonably cheap insurance.. I know I've got one Smile

Just find the bike you like and go for it.. Gut instinct is usually right.

That means nothing, costs me £360 to insure a TL1000R but £1700 to insure a GSXR1000, both litre bikes.

Do some quotes before judging on cc
