Relax and enjoy, it is what it says on the box...basic training. They will show you how to do up a crash hat, teach you the controls and let you play on the carpark doing some basic manoeuvres to show you have control of the bike and then take you for a spin on the road.
Some people say the kneedown is hard but go for it.

on a serious note, just listen to what they have to say regardless of what u think you already know (makes the day go smoother) they dont like spotty 16 year olds (or anyone any age for that matter((not calling you a spotty 16 yr old btw))) arguing and saying yh but. . . i bin told this or i know this blah blah blah just nod agree smile, if you can already ride and the rest of the party cant u may well find yourself free to ride around the compound whilst they get the rest up to speed i did.

other than that nothing to worry about its not a test, aslong as your not dangerously weavin alover the show unstable at pull of and stopping and have a milligram of common sence youll pass. Thumbs Up

I couldn't help lift the bike up as I was too busy pissing myself laughing. A few minutes later the instructor was leaning around her from the side, showing her how to release the clutch slowly, not realising that the bottle of coke he was holding was slowly emptying over her seat and running under her arse. That made me laugh too, especially when her expression changed from 'intently listening' to 'have I pissed my pants?'.

All in all it was a brilliant day but it was easier for me as it was a return to bikes rather than my first ever go.

Have a read of the highway code.

Listen to your instructor and ask any question you can think of regardless of how silly or trivial you think it may be.

Don't be shy!

Don't let other people make you nervous.

If you get to the road ride part, don't hang over to the left like lots of people on scooters or peds do, you have as much right to be on the road as anyone else.

Remember that to make the bike turn you not only have to move the front wheel - you gotta LOOK where you want to turn. Don't look infront of you!

CBT will be a morning spent getting to know the bike and the controls then riding around in circles and figures of eight. You will then go on to look at junctions and turning using shoulder checks. There will be a bit about the highway code and what to do in certain situations. If you are not up to standard you will be asked to come back another day for some addditional training. If you are OK you will go out on the road and do a couple of hours out with stops to do things like U turns and the like. Then its back to the CBT place to gleefully receive your certificate if all went well Thumbs Up

Official Motorcycling - CBT, theory & Practical test - Everything you need to know

Over the years various pieces of legislation have been introduced to reduce two-wheeled motor vehicle casualties, including the compulsory wearing of safety helmets, restriction on the size of learner motorcycles & most recently the requirement for all learners to pass a theory test.

Compulsary Basic Training (CBT) was introduced in 1990 to equip new riders with basic skills before riding unaccompanied on the road. CBT isn’t a test & there’s no exam – it’s a course of training you’re required to complete satisfactorily. As a road safety initiative it has proved to be a great success and motorcycling today is safer than it ever has been.

On the other hand the purpose of the practical test is to prove you can ride your motorcycle safely on the road. During your practical test your examiner will want to see you riding to the standards set in this book. Those Standards are given here in easy to read style with illustrations, which explain simply what is required. However, riding is never predictable. Road conditions or circumstances will demand that you use your initiative or common sense. You should be able to assess any situation & apply the guidance given in this book.

You shouldn’t assume that if you pass your tests you are a good rider with nothing more to learn. Learning to ride a motorcycle is a continiouse process, and the tests are just one stage in your riding career.

Make sure that your aim is always “Safe Riding for life”

Robin Cummins – Chief Driving Excaminer – DSA

T T in CBT is TRAINING - they ought to TEACH you EVERYTHING you need to know, so DONT SWEAT IT!

You turn up, knowing nothing, but at least knoiwing you know nothing, listen to what the instructors tell you - ought to do FINE!

That is the Menu for the day. Pretty comprehensive, isn't it?
Rules also say that you progress at your own rate; the instructor only passing you from one element to the next when you are ready.

ONLY preparation you really need, is to have a look at the highway code, bone up on road signs and stuff, and sort the 'gear' you may want on the day.

School should tell you whether they provide riding wear, or what to buy for yourself, and what to wear.

Hobby Horse I have ios NOT getting an Akito or Rhino "My First Motorcycle Outfit" helmet and gloves, straight off the stops, as its not great value or all that wonderful protectiuon & can make training more cumbersome, in restrictive unfamiliar 'garb'.

CBT is mosty on a school playground, at little more than walking pace. You aren't LIKELY to have a crash, but IF you do, you REALLY dont need to be dressed like a road-racer expecting a 100mph fall and very long slide along tarmac...

Fall over on CBT and you are most likely going to be traveling slower than if you tripped on a kerb crossing the road!

So dress sensibly, in 'every-day' outdoor wear, sensible shoes, heavy jeans or trousers, decent jacket.

Then IF you want or need your own kit; go get a pair of THIN comfy gloves and a CHEAP crash-helmet, and here there is nothing wrong with a £20 open face hat, that you keep as a 'spare' after CBT; but light weight and with better allround vision, and not closing in your face, is more 'natural' to wear, and wont have you faffing around with the clasp to take it on or off every time the instructor needs to talk to you, or getting in a panick behind a fogged up visor, you cant open with your gloves on!

Can be a long day... so take snacks and sandwhiches, and plenty to drink.... and remember to pack a bit extra, you know, an apple for teacher..... Wink

Treat it as a day out.... and HAVE FUN!

Dont try to learn everything before you go. Its not a test, its a training course to teach you how to ride. Just make sure that if you have any questions at all to ask the examiner. It will be too late afterwards.

The only tip I could really offer is posting in the right section, now this may be general bike chat, but the section for noobs is over there, I only highlight this as I don't want you going to the DSA Test Centre instead of the CBT centre, because you will have gone to the wrong section for you licence as such, I am just concerned that you have posted here in the wrong section, that you may end up going to the wrong place to do your CBT
Then where are you? Up to your tits in frogs and £100 or so lighter, which makes the sullied hooker with the bucket minge smelling like dead kippers you put your fist in for £75 seem like a damn good deal.

Yeah, be prepared to learn, don't worry about making mistakes. GO with the right attitude and a small amount of preparation (as you are doig here, which is a very good way of going about it Thumbs Up )

Have fun, keep it real, keep it in perspective! Best of luck and enjoy biking. its one of the best things in the world, and a great community.

I was the only person who'd never been on 2 wheels before when I did my CBT so you can imagine how much of a newb I felt. The guys teaching you are professional and will allow for this like already mentioned set the semi experience riders off on their own and honing their time on you.

There are plenty of things you can take from this thread and anyone who gives you advice, to add to that I'd say whenever you get a chance learn where the bite is and how to get your balance on move off.

If you can whilst being breifed go to the bite and back and keep doing it so you can confidently pull away as if you remove the panic and 'how do I do this again' you can concentrate on the harder stuff like fitting in your lifesavers and learning how to feel confident on two wheels.

Personally I thought a whole day was too intense, I was shattered physically and mentally by the end as I'd gave it everything I'd got in an effort to learn it all in a day. I never did but it allows you to get to the next stage of lessons wether it be DAS or just getting on a 125 and going out with your mates, you'll find you'll learn much quicker after your CBT.

good luck
