....... since I came off my bike four weeks ago I haven't been back on it . The first week or two I couldn't wait to get back on it but couldn't 'cause I was in so much pain. I've been mending well, but over the last week or so I've not really had any drive to get on it at all!!!!
I'm going to try and kick myself up the arse over the weekend, fingers crossed it just stays dry, but what if my confidence has gone completely?
Is this normal or am I just a poof?!?!?! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

I am always more wary on the bike after a crash...I don't corner nearly as hard on wet roads as I used to before I highsided and that was more than two years ago.
Whenever I have had a crash, I make myself get back on the bike (when I and it have been repaired) and ride it on the corner/bit of road I had the crash just to prove the point.
It is maybe more of a case that you have looking out the window over the last week at the rain lashing down and the trees bent double in the wind thinking "I really can't be bothered going out on my bike." ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I 'aint going back on that road for a wee while yet Stinky, was a well-dodgy road!!!!!! I think it was the B822 from Fintry to Lennoxtown!!! Dream road for experienced bikers mind you!!!
Other than the pains I had, I rode it the rest of the way home OK, not too nervous or anything, but I am finding myself making excuses to go out on it now!!!!!
Maybe I'm just not meant to be a biker! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

Normal is 2.4 kids. What the hell is .4 of a kid??????
Everybody is different. Some get straight back on, some never do.
I dropped mine years ago on a left-hand bend. Hit a wet drain cover and the back wheel slid out from under me. I went down so smoothly, I actually wondered whose bike that was, sliding down the road in front of me. Then I realised there was no longer a bike underneath me
I got straight back on (ok I paused to have a cig), and rode the rest of the way into work. Rode home at night. No problems.
Except that for months afterwards I found myself sticking my leg out on bends, so that if it did start sliding again, I could kick it back up ...........
Don't worry about your confidence. Any accident will knock it. It's natures way of looking after your body. Just relax, take a deep breath and get back on the bike when you're ready.
And then, when you slip it into gear and open the throttle, you'll remember what it felt like the first time you did that. A bit scarey, but what a rush!
Cheers,
Byrnie. ____________________ NABD Treasurer

I'd not worry about it, after two lowsides I found myself scared of leaning into corners. Scared of corners even! Eventually I realised what I was doing wrong and all is fun again. I could lean the bike, but it wouldn't feel good going round the corner unless I leaned too. One thing I found vaguely useful was to actually not ride for a while, so I'd forget my fear of corners. It kind of worked.
The rain and the wind are nice excuses, and if I don't have to ride in crappy weather conditions, I'm tending not to atm. I dunno if this is universal, but during the first rides after a bit of an accident, I seem to lose all semblance of skill, confidence and ability. It's not fun to ride like that and I found myself making up excuses not to, but persevere and it will all come back to you. |

Is normal, just do it in your own time, pick a quiet time of day. Maybe early sunday morning and go for a gentle ride in your local area where you know the roads. You know we are right and we know it is easier said than done . All the best with this one, good luck and let us know how you get on |

Yeah, maybe biking's not for you............... DON'T BE BLOODY DAFT WOMAN. Read back through some of your previous posts, then come back and tell us that one little tumble killed that 'excited little girl' within. ____________________ I was only doing what it said on my licence officer....

I always feel a bit iffy about riding after an off, I always return sooner or later though.
Confidence has taken a small tumble, thats all.
Just think back to the amazing feelings of when you was riding and all was flowing in tune, your stallion between your legs, the cool breeze flowing over your face and your body, the sun on your back and the countryside smells, the freedom.
The weather has taken a turn for the worst recently, perhaps the cold and miserable is also making you feel a shade down too, as soon as winter is over I would like to think you will be full of fresh sap and rearing to go for spring.
The main thing is you learnt from the crash?
If so you will not make the same mistake again.
You know it's calling you |

I'm sure you *are* meant to be a biker (I remember you as the person who rode that bike from my place back to Glasgow with no other experience other than a CBT!) so I'm sure this is just temporary after your accident. I'm still getting over my fall on the zx6r, I'm slowly (veeery slowly) starting to get my confidence back on corners. It's hard at first because you don't have the same enthusiasm to get on your bike, you more or less have to force yourself! Pick a small route to take, one that you know, even if it's just 15mins there and back, and go out when it's quiet - morning or early evening, whatever is best. Just take it easy, don't rush, and you'll recover, honest! ____________________ "The problem with the French is they have no word for 'entrepreneur' " George W Bush

Hey Angel, as you know, I've fixed mine after catapulting myself through that barbed wire fence and into the earth, and I'm not giving up (however booze, late nights and being on-call for work have conspired to keep me off it ). I'll go for a wee hoon with you if you want, how about tomorrow? ____________________ My Old CBR400RR | Bike Oil FAQ | Petrol FAQ |

Rory, that's a nice gesture, but you live away through in Edinburgh, would that not be taking you right out of your way? ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

The longer you stay off the bike the harder it will be to get back on. So go now ride (well maybe wait till morning). ____________________ Suzuki RF 600 - The two wheeled Testarossa (Deceased)

Do you know, reading all you guys (and gals) messages has perked me up a bit, 'cause I hadn't actually said out loud before I posted this message that my bottle had crashed a bit. I am in a better frame of mind today and had we not had a bit to do today, would have been out earlier, however, I am going out on my bike tomorrow, albeit on my own, raining, or whatever!!!!!
It's good to hear people having similar feelings after their off's too! I guess I probably feel a bit silly too with it only being a wee off in comparison to some!!!!

Whatever you do don't force yourself, do it because it's fun, not because you feel you should. A little fear is a good thing, chances are it will keep you in one piece.I read how much you enjoyed the 'Island invasion', do you really want to give that up before it's even begun. Relax, don't dwell on what might have been and take winter to get your shit together. See you in a field next year. ____________________ I was only doing what it said on my licence officer....

I am lucky, never had a crash, but a few rear end slides/fishtails/near misses, and after each one I force myself (after I get done being all panicy) to ride it until the tanks dry, fill it up and take it home, I may ride slow, I may take corners ridiculously slowly and leave enough room for a steam liner to come to a stop between me and other traffic, but then I find that after a good nights sleep it will be fine the next day, even though after having the back end slide it feels like it will lose grip on the slighest corners, I find the next day it all comes back to me.
Just take it easy and enjoy it, hope you have a good day tomorrow. ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>
