After reassembling the carb on mine and turning the tap on, it peed petrol for 10-20 seconds from the overflow pipe, before gradually coming to a stop on it's own. There wasn't anything wrong with the float needle or anything that I know of, and it's not overflowed at all overwise.

Well if the bike had been sitting along time since your crash, the unleaded petrol my have gone off, as it has a shelf life.
And it causes the float in the carb too stick and perishes the rubbers too.

So best thing to do it clean the carb out and drain all the old petrol off and fill it with some new petrol.

make sure the pipe is coneccted the right way round. I put min facing down and it just created a syphoning effect that took me ages to figure out.

Good Luck
