Has this problem started suddenly, or has is been a progressive issue? try taking the air filter off and blocking the air intake on the carb with your hand to manually choke it, if that doesn't work I'd move onto removing + cleaning the carb/jets.

Hi, (matts dad here) lol
well it seems the bike won`t start due to a what seems like a bent inlet valve (top one) turn the engine over by hand with kick start slowly and rocker pushes down valve but when its on the return ie the cam is bottom side of the cam lobe valve will not return untill piston knocks valve back up, now this rectified it self yesterday afternoon and the engine started and run, matt was happy even went off on his travels only to brake down a few miles away and had to walk the bike home, so my question is if this is a bent valve would it not be like this all the time? not rectify its self or has the valve turned around and its not right,i have not worked on bike engines before only cars but im guessing they both same?

A bent valve is a bent valve. It won't straighten and it won't last long either, it'll also damage the engine and it might have damaged the guide.

Don't run the engine any more. Tear off the cylinder head and find out why the valve isn't seating. My bet is that the engine has been over-revved and there's been some piston to valve contact.

Its possible that the valve is damaged in such a way that it jams in one position and is free in another - i.e. when it rotates in the valve guide.

Running the engine like this will run the risk of the valve snapping and doing more extensive damage inside the cylinder, so best to have the head off as soon as possible and assess what needs to be done.

You have put an 'Imp' on a Chinese-Fake-Away'?!?!?!

Worse still... a Chinese fake-away, with a fueling problem, bought off the Chuink-meister! (hows his dog? Max?)

https://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w269/teflons-torque/030_037_Ridgeway/triptowiltshiresept09064.jpg

Big, La-ad, inee?

The frame probably twisted when he sat on it and kinked the fuel hose!

YES, Rovers, its scrap.

& the head's probably not much good either.

Get in touch with Riders or Yoevil... not far from you... do a lot of chinky bits including new cylinder heads, which at I seem to recall about £70 are probably cheaper than trying to get the guide reamed out and replaced by local M/C shop.

& I've hardly been 'Hiding' over here... Snowie brought me over with her ambition to build a Super-Dream to 'learn' mechanics. See profile, links to her 'project' thread on there.

You may remember, in explanation of the 'Teflon' pseud; on LRO, actually came from Road-Rash, and was convenient six letter user-name, when I signed up for one of the earliest bike forums, or 'bulatin boars' as they were then, circa 1995, called Planet-Bike; joining UK based Visor Down when it started up, Oh! sometime towards end of last century! & carried over to LRO when that started up, and I had bought my First Landy to haul kids and Trials-Bike about! YES I have been around THAT long that my original user name was because they databases ONLY accepted six letter user-names!

What's happened to the tudor?

Where Rovers sig gif was link to the Imps Motorcycle display team, and his posts for a certain duration were concerned with renovating an old Two-Door Rangie...

Who am I talking to, Roverv8, or one of the 'imps'?

Roverv8, bought chinky-fake-away Shinray off fellow LRO Forumer, Chunkster, wiltshire 'Laner with pooch in pic....

Shinrays are renound for being made of cheese... and he's a BIG lad... hence joke about the suggested fuel problem being he had squashed it when he sat on it!

Shinrays and Chinese takaway bikes are also renouned for being incredibly low quality, 'scrap', hence joke that yes its scrap, and the head dont look any better!

New heads are avaiolable from Riders of Yeovil, which I believe is virtually on your door-step... both you on here, and Rovers on LRO claiming to live in Wiltshire....

Or am I barking up the wrong tree, lead astray, by comment quoted above?

Clear as mud? 'Cos now I'm confuddled?

Coming from school boy trials, presented with a cone slalom on my 'Part One', and limited steering lock, I did the OBVIOUSE thing.... I did it on the back wheel!

Gained me a round of applause, the congratualtions of the examiner and a FAIL!

I have images of him, attending modern tests, told, "Yeah, they're a bugga, not like my day when bloke just watched y' wobble round t'block... make you jump through oops they duz these days, the' doo!"

Coming back all perplexed... "Well I couldn't find any hoops Dad.... so While I was waiting for the examiner.... I set some up...... I was JUST setting fire to them...... And no! I didn't even get to take the test!

Some bloke came running out the test office with a fire extinguisher, then three fire tenders turned up, and NEXT think I know, I had a GUN to my head, and was being 'Detained' under 'Terrorism' act!

Piston Rings & Bores.
If a ring has snapped, rather than just worn out, it would 'happen quick'. Would also extra phuck the bore!
Back to Riders.... think they do big-bore kits, take them out to 142cc!
