Tuesday flew to the UK for my mother-in-laws funeral.
Wednesday flew back and as I was feeling relatively low I decided to take a test ride on a bike I'd been looking at, got a mile then rounded a sharp corner to face a mass of construction equipment, gravel and mud on the road and 2 cars. Snatched the front brake too quickly while leaned over on on a slippery surface and the bike threw me down, landing on my leg.
Trapped under the bike for about a minute until a taxi driver pulled the bike off me... along with my jeans, which had become entangled in foot pegs, gear levers etc. giving a fine show to the bus-load of school kids who had stopped to help.
Two pretty nurses on their way to work (and my students - so no way I could keep this quiet!) applied savlon to the hand sized road rash on my leg and made 'there, there' comments.
The bike was undamaged apart from a bent gear lever - it had found me a useful airbag/cushion for itself obviously. Managed to get the bike back to the garage without a problem and the guy didn't notice the bent gear lever. Was able to manfully not-hobble to my bike and ride to A&E where I got a nice new dressing for road-rash and nothing at all for the two cracked ribs.
Friday - my 14-year-old daughter was hit by a car (driven by another of my students) on a filter-in-turn, she's fine, thank goodness, apart from a bruised backside but her brand-new, month-old Derbi GPR50 is a write-off, scrapes on every panel and cracked frame behind footrest.
Saturday the boiler went, so no hot water to wash and bathe our various injuries.
Can I respectfully request to any and all deities that obviously have it in for me at the moment to please leave me alone now? Enough's enough thank you very much.
**edited to add a few pix at the end, plus new bike collision - honestly I really think Ganesha, or whoever it is I've offended, needs to move on. ____________________ Current Carz: Jeep Liberty, Kia Sorrento Diesel

Surely there was at least some scuffing on the bike? Seems impossible that you could drop it above a walking pace and do no visible damage whatsoever ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |

I dropped one of my bike's. Slid down the road. Crash bar's and a set of soft panier's coming back from Europe. Saved the bike. Not a mark on the bike. But the crash bar's have some grounding down on one side.

I can understand how they didn't spot the bent gear-lever, but how did they miss your shredded jeans and chewed-up leg? ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Nice.
This week ive had:
Dads car broken into.. house keys, wallet, phone, gear stolen..
The theiving cunts managed to empty the bank account, they used an ATM so somehow knew the PIN, makes you wonder just how safe it is having just a pin.
Cancelled all the cards too, door locks changed, window changed ect, out of pocket £3000 now, dirty fucking bastards.
And just got hit by a car but he's all good now!

My son came off his scooter today, mostly unhurt except for pride, hit a kerb, got thrown off immediately into grass and weeds, where he landed on his back, did a reverse roll making a 'foliage angel'.
Every panel and 'sticking out bit' (technical term) on nearside is shaved and L-plate torn off.

Cheers! I think we've all been lucky. Even at the moderate speeds we have to adhere to here, all of our collisions could have been much worse.
Wake-up calls for all of us.
We all wear helmet, jacket, gloves as a minimum, except for my son with his 'collision with grass, weeds etc.' as he hadn't bothered to put his gloves on..... luckily the weeds contained lots of stinging nettles so he won't make that mistake again!
I've just been out and rode past lots of riders on a variety of machines from scooter to massive Harley who were wearing shorts, T-Shirt, helmet and that's it. Harley rider was wearing flip-flops to top it all. I guess it goes with the 'Holiday Island' vibe.
It's up to you to choose your level of protection and how comfortable you are and I wouldn't want to see legislation introduced to force the matter, but I am secretly hoping the Harley rider as a minimum burns his leg and melts his flip-flops on hot exhaust when he gets off the bike. ____________________ Current Carz: Jeep Liberty, Kia Sorrento Diesel
