Hi,

It's the newbie again, my 1998 CG125 smells of petrol pretty much all the time. Is this normal?

Can't find any leaks anywhere? And since asking for advice on tidying up the valve clearances & sparks etc, it's been running really well.

Got my bedroom window open with the bike in the back garden, and can smell it in my room. Can't be right? No leaks as I've said but could it be something else?

Sounds like your fuel tap isn't turning 'OFF' or the float chamber valve in the crb is duff. Most likely the tank tap needs attention.

You can only smell fuel once it's in the air. As fuel evaporates so quickly you can have a leak that's not even visible. Personally i'd check out the tank and tap, and replace all the fuel line.

Are you sure it's not fuel that's got on your clothes and you've taken them into your room?

It's not from any clothes, hasn't been ridden for a few days. I bought it dirt cheap, and I knew it would come with problems. I'm still really new to biking and bought it cheap to learn on as well as to learn about the bike itself.

What would I go about checking with the tank/tap and lines?

It might be worth running your fingers aroung the bottom edge of your tank, you could have a split or maybe a rust hole allowing fuel out, it takes very little to make a hell of a stink.

How is the rubber round the filler cap. If it old, hard, cracked it will let fumes out and rain water in.
