I got knocked off this morning on the way to work…

…by a petite female on a bicycle. Embarassed Laughing

Junction of Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road and she came through a red light and T-boned me right over. There was a van stuck in the crossroads blocking my view otherwise I would have seen her coming. You could argue that I should have proceeded more cautiously due to the reduced visibility, but equally, if I’d gone faster instead of braking we wouldn’t have connected.

No damage to me or my gear. Bike has minor scratches on right engine case, exhaust heat shield, top right fairing and top left (where she hit it), a snapped brake lever and bent rear brake lever. She looked to have a fairly spectacular bruise on her shin and her bicycle had bent forks and buckled wheel. She was enormously apologetic. Late for work apparently.

So, cyclist with no insurance leaves me to pay for any repairs myself. Doesn’t look too disastrous and I’ll probably live with the minor damage and put it down to city bike life. New brake levers already on order.

I don’t record every journey, but by chance I had the camera running today. Enjoy:

https://youtu.be/oNc4XGzsuzo

This is my first accident involving another road user in 20 years of daily riding.

The worst bit? I only picked up the bike last night. D’oh! Crying or Very sad

Gutted for you but at least it's only aesthetic damage.

She should definitely have paid towards repairs for your bike. Either that or tits & gary would have sufficed. Thumbs Up

This has nothing to do with her obligation to pay for the damage she has caused, it just means it'll come out of her own pocket. Accidents while cycling are covered on some household insurance policies, too.

It is insane for a cyclist to go through a red light when they have no visibility of oncoming traffic. What if had been in a big cage or lorry?

Her listening to music is excatly why I never listen to music on a bike when in traffic. You deprive yourself of hearing and have only visual senses, never minf your mind not being focussed.

Sorry, no audio because it was threatening rain and I put the waterproof case on the camera.

She was really nice and full of guilt about running the red light. Even more so once I rubbed it in about just getting the bike.

The Tesco's lorry driver was warning me about catching her before she legged it.

The cyclist who turned to speak as he rode off was apologising for not stopping to help as he was running late.

Kudos to the dudes who helped pick up the bike. Most helpful.

Technically you jumped the red light twice as you went past the first stop line on red then moved off and crossed the second stop line on the red/amber. Nothing I wouldn't do myself, just saying.

I cross that junction daily.

Personally I would have made her pay for repairs but kudos for keeping cool. Hope it's okay.

P.s. - loving the headphones and 'in my own little bubble' look as she plows into you. Confused What a stupid bitch.

There no way you can make her pay?

I'd be livid.

This morning too. Sad

Mild Tut Tut to you for assuming that there were no retards coming, but she is very, very lucky not to have got properly mashed up and added to the depressingly long list of pedalists who outrode their luck.

Have a laugh, send the link to Boris and TfL and ask them how their red light cameras and legions of Scamera cars are going to help you out. Wink

That moment when she looks at you and smiles, I'd have bloody clocked her one. I had a very strong urge to do it when watching the video. Woman or no, you don't knock someone off of a motorbike and then smile as if it doesn't matter.

She's lucky not to land on her head, without a helmet could be nasty!

She's clearly not in need of a helmet.

Yeah I saw that too…… when watching the video back again and again. Wink

I missed it at the time because I was concentrating on getting round the van in the “yellow box” and getting out of the way of the approaching articulated lorry.

Shit happens, but could be worse. Could have happened 5 seconds later and have ended up under the wheels of the Tesco lorry.

Looks to me like she is saying "Sorry mate I didn't see you" - a classic acknowledgement of fault is plastered across her face, right there Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I would of got her details and be expecting her to pay. Don't give a flying fig where she gets the money from, he pocket or insurance.

A pretty face or not - he fault and she has to pay.

Why is it always the cyclist who don't wear helmets??

Unlucky on the accident. I would of rang the local police station and asked their opinion on what to do next. Deffo should of asked for her details, but I would of been in shock in that situation and would of probably forgot to do so.

Luckily for her you didn't wait for green, otherwise you would of T-Boned her and i'm guessing that would of been a far more serious accident.

Luckily the plate fell off so they won't be able to identify the OP.

I guess you could consider yourself lucky it wasn't my bloke (who often cycles to work somewhere in that area) - he's a bit more of a lump than she is, he would have definitely dinged your tank Laughing

I did have a little laugh seeing the pedal on her bicycle spinning round like that Laughing

Seriously though, should have got her details. She ran a red light, damaged your bike and is a potential danger to other road users.
