I insured my R6 in March (I think)... cancelled it in August in order to reinsure with the WR at another company

They still want me to pay them another £700 despite cancelling it mid August..

I hate insurance companies and shit Crying or Very sad

This years insurance costs?

Coming on for £3000 and thats from March until Now Crying or Very sad Not even the end of year yet..

I feel sick Sick

I've paid to insure the R6 twice at £1200 (well, 1st works out a bit cheaper at about £1000) I lost 2 deposits in cancelled insurance and lots of interest on the finance.

It's all a big mess..

Moral of story is 1) don't get insurance on finance 2) if you have to, then make sure you don't change companies/bikes half way through!! Laughing

Problem is I now have about £500 going out a month and only earn about £600 Rolling Eyes time to sell R6 Twisted Evil

Whenever i hear the word insurance all i hear is my money flying out of my pocket.

If you don't have insurance and you have a crash, the other people can still claim and it's paid by the Motor Insurance Bureau who will then come after you for you to pay them back. So it could be useful unless you've got very deep pockets.

The R6 is for sale, it's been on ebay with no success.. going to sort the fairing and stick on biketrader / dealers... otherwise it's being wrapped up for the winter and I'll sell it for top ££ next summer.

It's just that I was silly and didn't think it through and ended up making a mess of it with all the cancellations and so on.. I've had all this before with my bandit and ZXR400!

This thread isn't so much a go at insurance companies, it's not their fault I fucked up.. it's just annoying that they charge so bloody much for insurance in the first places Laughing

Ahh well, live and learn!!

The R6 and WR400 are still insured with the 2nd lot which I renewed in August... so I still have till next August left on insurance.. I'm hoping the finance price will go DOWN when I change the R6 for a Thundercat... doubt it, but in theory it should.

Danny found me a quote for R6 and WR400, including break down + TPO on other bikes for £1200

Insuring WR on it's own would have cost £1000 (+ what I already had paid for R6)

What would you chose?

No, I pay on finance so still need to pay £700

I can understand having to pay the remainder balance when cancelling, as agreed it's a "loan" in a way.. but I had no idea the difference was going to be £700 Shocked

Best thing to do IMVHO (which is what Im currently setting up) is to buy the bike on a personal loan from a main loan company (Natwest or someone) and buy your insurance on the same loan upfront.

If you change bikes, they will either refund the remainder of your insurance, or, transfer the remainder to a new policy with the same company. Or worst case they wont, but should do if theyre good (check beforehand)?

Why would I want to get a loan for the next bike? Will pay cash!! Don't want loans to add onto all these flipping insurance finance crap repayments Shocked

One of the problems is that some loan companies want to insure you - not the bike, so that if you snuff it or hit on hard times and loose your income they still get their dosh. Make sure you know exactly what you are buying when you go for insurance, bearing in mind some of the richest UK companies are insurance companies, which means they are out to make a profit out of YOU!!

They're all out to make a profit. I have not heard of an insurance policy which covers you as opposed to covering the bike. You can get policies which you're covered TPO on other peoples bikes but you have to specifcy what bike you're insuring, and I believe they expect you to use that bike more than you use other peoples on your TPO cover.

Any insurance if you have taken it out by monthly payment you're liable for them whatever happens, same as any loan as that is what it is when you get your insurance to pay monthly.

You used to be able to get these, they were called "rider policies" and Norwich Union were the best for them. However, they started to phase them out about 8 (?) years ago, and these days they're as rare as rocking-horse poo.
