anyone else had this problem?
i checked insurance prices for 600cc sports bikes seeing as ive now gotten myself a cushy 2k a month job. i put down my details and said id passed my license. the prices i got are:

2003 cbr600rr = £7800/500 excess
2003 yzfr6 = £9200/500 excess
2003 gsxr600 = £674 / 400 excess

i want to know how it could possibly be such a far cry between these bikes or if its a glitch. anyone else had this issue?
i mean theyre all rough same bhp and year wtf?!

Well, Just make sure you get it passed.. Should imagine everywhere is going to be booked up for ages (some places already are!)

It's gonna be a really shit time for young lads who (for whatever reason) Don't pass in time..

Good luck!

Gixxers for the win Smile

It could also be possibly that Suzukis being water soluble it may have dissolved in the rain before you get a chance to make full use of blasting around on the bike, your £674 cost being comparable for the period of time it's expected to last Wink Razz

It's their way of saying piss off, there's no way in hell
we are going to insure a 21 year old on 2 of the most
crashed bikes in that age group.

The fact they are the same power output as the gsxr,
is irrelevant, based on their data, a 21 year old on one
of the other two is a massively high risk.

Yup, those are "do not want the business" quotes. They won't actually refuse to quote, since they also ask you to disclose if you've ever been refused insurance.

The Gixxer isn't exactly a bargain either, you'll want to start fiddling with the factors to see if you can get that down a bit.

ive had one of them before.. for a 125 that doesnt exist anymore at 94k.. well its actually cheaper than my first ever insurance at £690. i could probably get it lower if the comparison sites actually accounted for no claims on a CBT. ive held my cbt now for 3 years and will have my 1 year no claims by aug 27. which is making my insurance now drop to £230.
and i guess yep they would go on statistics, but i believed gixxers to be the more commonly ridden bikes hence being more crashed than the others.

I just insured my CBR 125 07, granted not really in the same range as yours but I originally wanted TPTF - cost was £450 but with a £900 excess and the bike was worth £950 o_0. Had to settle for just TP and a lot of chains and alarms. Insurance brokers are a bit touched in the head.

It's because they're all sports bikes. I've been getting quotes for a Honda Hornet 2005 I've been looking at recently and it's around £400 TPFT for the year, which isn't bad at all (especially when you compare it to a car). I'm 21 and have had my licence for 2 weeks. I do have 1 year NCB from my 125 which helps a bit.

Maybe you'll have to go for something a little less sporty? Neutral

Try getting quotes for the same bikes, but older models from the 1990's. Or get some quotes for a Hornet, Bandit, SV650, Thundercat etc.

I just paid for TPFT on an '08 ZX6R, cost me £1000 Shocked and thats being 21 with 1yrs NCB. To get it down, try going from 10000miles to 9999 for instance or only getting say 5000 miles and then putting more on later on in the year and paying the admin fee... Having a thatcham approved lock etc. Im surprised the GSXR was that cheap, seems like a system error. I would personally check it over the phone to make sure it doesn't void your policy. About a year ago I was trying to do the same as you and insurer after insurer said it was pointless trying to get a 600 being under 25 without a years NCB.

Insurance is an absolute ball ache but a years experience on a smaller machine is worth it.
