Here we go.

Just because I have a bike on ebay with a starting price of £XXX, that doesn't mean I will accept the said amount to end the auction now. Especially as there are still 6 days left to run and I was hoping to get quite a bit more for it than that.

Does this get on anyone elses nerves also?

Someone made you an offer, big deal. Just tell him/everyone what you want for it and then there'll be no more crying. Crying or Very sad

I buy a bargin bike for £500 though it's tatty and neglected. I spend a lot of time and a little money fixing everything and have it looking really good. A mate asks how much it cost me to which i reply £500! Very Happy
"I'll give you £500 for it."

I've had that happen about 3 times now.

Nothing to be annoyed about people are trying to get a bargain same as you would if you were looking to buy a bike.

some people just stick the asking price / starting price up to the max anyway so offering the starting price is normal Thumbs Up

i bought my NSR for it's starting price Thumbs Up

I always low-ball an offer if there is something I want - you never know, the seller may just think "ah bollocks to it, I'm being offered the minimum amount I wanted and hopefully I won't get messed around" and sell.

If you don't ask.... Thumbs Up

And how long did it take to reply with "thanks for the interest but I'll let the auction run" ?

Smile

If you don't like people making you offers the same as your starting price, then raise the starting price!

And stop whinging about it.

Rejoice, you've found someone interested in buying your bike.

He names a silly low price, you name a silly high price. That's how haggling works.

What annoys me is when insurance companies ask the purchase price of your bike/car. I don't mind them asking current value, but purchase price?!? If I have owned it 5 years, or spent £1000 fixing up a shitter what does it matter to them?

Needless to say I pluck a very high number out of my arse and give an accurate, if not slightly optimistic current value.

Same frost.

In reply to OP, If the starting price is about going price, Id offer starting price near the end of the auction.

Generally the starting price is the lowest somebody is willing to take.

So start you add with...

DO NOT MESSAGE ME ASKING IF I WILL TAKE XXX. THIS IS A AUCTION THAT WILL RUN TO THE END. ANY MESSAGES WILL BE IGNORED ASKING THE ABOVE

I offered someone the starting price on a £500 mountain bike a while ago. He declined.
I 'won' the bike for £510.
If I wanted to be annoying, I could have then paid by paypal.
Think at the time the limit for final value fees would have been £40.

So instead of taking the £500 he was offered, he ended up with £470 by keeping the auction going.

In other cases I have got the item for under the starting price - I have dropped them a note saying "your starting price is a bit high for me, if it doesn't sell, I'll happily give you £x for it cash."

Should've said it cost £900 and see if he offered that. Would've paid for the next small project Wink

Putting a reserve costs an additional £8 so I thought it would be cheaper to put on a higher starting price. Ebay already fleece sellers enough without giving them more money.

I am quite sure it is worth £500, maybe more as it is in much better than average condition.

i agree selling motor's on eBay is day light robbery, even selling normal good's is a scam it's 10% of final valuation of what it sell's for Thumbs Down

i sold £1000 worth of Snap On Tools and they took £130 in fee's its ridiculous !

where's the problem? you list at at the lowest price you're willing
to accept.. potential buyer offers you the lowest you're willing to
accept..

Unless of course you started it lower to pay less ebay fees..

What if it gets no bids and it goes for the starting price Laughing

If you sold them in 1 listing for £1000 you got ripped off if you paid £130 in fees.

If it goes for the starting price then fair enough, but I won't end the listing early for the starting price when there are 25 watchers and 6 days left to run..

Not enough swearing to qualify as a rant.

You need to write a note to yourself: must try harder.

Thumbs Up
