Use the old one on top of the new and tap it down, you can have the washer in between and it will push it down an extra few mm. Tap it down only until the old seal is flush with the top of the fork as you dont want that one stuck. I used a blunt bit of wood to tap it down further. You could go to B&Q and get a bit of plastic pipe the right size to slide over the stanchon and use that. You just want something that the end pushing the seal is spread over the largest area as possable.

a sealed chaincase on an old MZ or CG,A bit like Anne Widdecombe.......ugly but does the job much better than flashy rivals.

I removed this on my MZ because I thought it looked gash. I was a fool. A FOOL!

In the sealed chaincase it was basically a completely sealed light oilbath system, i used to check it from time to time, and it never needed any maintenance or lubing at all. Now its completely exposed and corroding before my eyes.

I think i must be getting old because i know it looks rubbish, but i wish they'd bring it back, at least for commuter bikes. I'm going to try to fit gaiters on my VFR too. I'm into bikes for the riding. Maintenance is a necessary evil!
