https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-Alarm-DISC-Disk-Lock-DISCLOCK-Anti-theft-For-MOTORCYCLE-MOTORBIKE-Bicycle-/251076883826?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a75593572

Considering disklocks can be broken anyway, this is more of a detterant to be used when parked in car parks during the day. WOuld it be easy to break off?
Also would one of these be worth putting under the seat:

Thanks

I'd get one with a long keys rather than a round one personally. I don't trust round keys at all.

I've got one of the Aldi alarmed padlock things similar to this;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALARMED-MOTION-SENSOR-PADLOCK-MOTORBIKE-SHED-ALARM-LOCK-/230603111403?_trksid=p4340.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D555001%26algo%3DPW.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29%26meid%3D1734740315897308395%26pid%3D100009%26prg%3D1013%26rk%3D4%26

Was only £7/8 quid but has the Aldi 3 year guarantee, which is why I went for it. Its better than nothing and is quite sensitive to movement. Apparently they are prone to let in water if left outside for any period of time, but I only use mine when out and about, and its normally kept in the dry.

I'd imagine the alarm part of the disk lock you're looking at is the same, and its fairly loud but the shortfall is that it is easily muted by putting your finger over the tiny speaker.

In summary I wouldn't want to rely on it as my sole means of securing the bike but its definately worh having for the price.

I did a thread on that padlock before, i dropped it from waist height onto hardwood floor and the whole locking mechanism broke out of the lock itself, id avoid that and get a proper disklock personally.

That could probably be bolt croppered, unlike a standard disc lock.

I had one of those, from Maplin years ago. I seem to remember broke in half when I dropped it.

Well thats why i bought the Aldi one, just take it back if theres an issue. As I said, I wouldn't recommend as your only form of security.

The disc lock you linked to probably wouldnt last much longer as your talking about the bottom end of the market.

I agree that the disc lock would probably be more difficult to bolt crop but you could also say that you could easily take a wheel off to defeat a disc lock. I use the padlock on the end of a thick chain with the padlock inside the frame (if that makes sense), that makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to attack with bolt croppers.

As I said, bottom end of the market but any additional security you have is better than none.

I've got one of those you posted in your OP, had it months and the alarm still works, also dropped it a few times and it hasn't made a difference to it.

On the down side it's not the loudest thing ever.

You will only have a years warrenty from aldi, so if you drop it after that year you wont get a refund.
Ive ordered the disklock anyway, and i might order that cheap alarm, looks pretty good

Rolling Eyes
Aldi offer a three year warranty on most of their electrical items, if it breaks in that 3 years you will get a full refund. I had a full refund on a cheap tv from there after about 2 1/2 years so no worries there.

I have one of those alarmed disclocks, it was free when I bought a padlock and chain.

The one in the link is a total, worthless piece of shit. To shut it up a quick smack with a hammer would hit the back casing off and a second whack would smash the alarm module out and silence it.

The first whack WOULDN'T even set off the alarm as there is a warning beep thing.

Not only that but a third well placed hammer hit would probably snap it into two pieces and off of the bike completely.

It's also not loud at all and makes an annoying noise not much like an alarm.

To top it off, sometimes it goes off if you fart next to it (not even an exageration, I farted, it beeped Laughing ), sometimes I can sit on the bike and get ready to move off before the warning beep sounds.

Really really crap, in every way. Avoid.

Personally that sounds like you had a faulty model/needed a new battery I had one of these for the old bike when I had the disc lock and it always went off with the slightest nudge of the bike. The alarm was also louder than the cyclone alarm at the time.

Like everything its a deterrent and you will most probably spend a week talking about it and finally get the original one you were looking at. Yes you could spend £50 or more on a "decent one" but all you are saving is an extra 5 potential seconds to get to the bike.

Edit: This is the one I got bit more expensive however ordered 3 and all of them were top nosh. One was given to a friend, one I lost the keys for the other was a replacement.

if you can, get a bright yellow/orange/green one with a long cable reminder, if anything it acts as a deterrent straight away as its obvious. That and you wont forget it as easy!
