I've recently started cycling again, using my local section of the coast to coast. I like to keep a record of where I've been and what I've done. Is there an app for an iPhone that will plot from GPS to say something like google earth.

Thanks Carl

I use iMapMyRide

It's part of an iMap group of apps, including run, walk, hike.

Obviously has the usual features, gps location so creates a map, time, speed, etc, but also matches the GPS to a terrain map so can figure out climbs and descents, and can give a side-on view of the terrain showing ups and downs.

Also they all link to facebook, twitter and the usual others

AND THEY'RE ALL FREE!

I like Easy GPS Log, 59p. One click sends your latest log to an email as a .CSV attachment, which can easily be shown in Google Maps.

[edit] Although having just downloaded MapMyRide recommended above, I wish I'd seen that before I spent 59p on the one I bought Smile

Strava is really good and you can compare times to other riders.

I went with Bens idea and Shaggys recommendation of iMapMyRide. Haven't used it whilst on the go yet but have used its web based side of it to manually add my route from today.

My plan today was to do a small ride to ease me in. I've not cycled for four years now and it's showing. I ended up doing 12 miles which isn't a lot to some people but is something I'm happy with. However I feel I'll be suffering tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions people.

Thumbs Up Karma

Believe they also can give you a html code so you can post on forums too, could start a fitness progress thread or something, or at least post your ride from today incase people come back to the thread for suggestions in future.

I downloaded mapmyride, haven't used it yet though, will have to give it a whirl. Only started riding a bicycle lately myself too, got a 7 mile journey home from work, not too bad to ease me back into it!

I have Edmondo pro, it is good but I would like a more detailed history. For example I like to have the average speed option, but would love to see top speed etc... Once I compleye my ride. I can change the options during but not once I finish...

Late to the party but I use mapmywalk on android, they also do one for bikes and runners etc and on iphone too. https://www.mapmyride.com/imapmy/iphone/ free too. Uploads all your data on to their website which is handy for keeping track of what you've done.

Just read some reviews. Looks like update on MapMyRide has messed up some things when GPS is down and it uses phone masks which are inaccurate. Others say it sometimes doesn't save rides.

Sports Tracker looks good, but it doesn't inform you of each mile update reading the reviews.

I may just stay with Edmondo but they all have good and bad points.

Haven't had that problem myself with any of the iMapMy_____ apps, and I use 3 of them regularly.

So I'm guessing you can use these on a motorbike and see where you went aswell?

Does it map speed / averages and stuff?

I really need a new phone.

Yeah don't see why you can't use it on a motorbike, although it might give you irrelevant stuff like calories burnt etc.

Just no false claims you cycled it haha

A few people have said Endomondo as well, so I've downloaded that too. I'm thinking of having an hours blast before work tomorrow. I'll try and run both apps at the same time. I'll see which one out of Endomondo and iMapMyRide gives better results and report back.

Screen Shot of Edmondo for me. You can change to average speed etc... on the tabs, but once you press stop, that's it, you won't see everything that you haven't selected.
