winter is coming up and i remember earlier this year being sent a advert from a bike site showing these thermal gloves or sleeves you place under your normal biking gloves giving you a bit more protection from the wind

i cant bloody find them anywhere ! i cant remember the name everything i keep typing thermal bike gloves or inner bike gloves i get normal gloves!

You mean https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=motorcycle+glove+liners&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari?

Liner gloves. Never seen sleeves, but maybe liner sleeves?
Sunds hopeful, but worth a go.

Go old school that actually work.
Silk gloves as liners, inner gloves, whatever.
Found these click here on amazon.co.uk no hassle.
There are others out there and if you have an army/camping shop will probably have them in stock for you to try/buy.

Cold Killers, undergloves ??
https://www.coldkillers.co.uk/product.html?product=undergloves
I have a pair but VERY rarely use them because they reduce the feeling of the controls. OK for touring or motorway miles I guess

Be careful when wearing inner gloves as they can actually be bulky under normal gloves.
They can cause the fingers to be too compressed and not bend easily.

The first with compression is that it actually reduces blood flow to the fingers making them colder. The second with bulk it that it can make bike control harder.

I mention this as I did try a pair once and found what I describe. Hence the suggestion for the silk inners. Now for winter I use the two finger lobster type (without liners) and find them excellent (see this recent glove thread, chris-red post, or do a BCF search).

I like the idea of the lobster type gloves. but stupid question it is not more annoying to activate things such as the indicators?

i guess not as it's your thumb

I've always used the silk glove liners, and made sure that I have long sleeves on my thermals to avoid the gap 'tween glove n arm by cutting a thumb hole in the side of the thermal sleeve to keep them in place.

(I hope that makes sense!)

Having never gotten on with Gauntlet type gloves I always ride in shorter summer gloves, I just whack a pair of £1 'magic' stretch gloves on underneath, served me well over the last eight years anyway... Thumbs Up

I've had those inner liners in the past and found them not very good, hands still got cold and was just bulky and awkward.

I've tried all sorts of winter gloves and the best pair I've ever had are the lobster gloves from HG.

You get used to them and they aren't annoying to use the controls.

If you get cold in them, next step is tucano urbano hand muffs.
