Where can you buy from?
There's some good deals on 2012 models around at the moment.
For instance, I believe this is pretty good value: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/battaglin-c12-plus-veloce-2012/
But whether you want a £1900 rrp carbon framed bike is another matter, of course.
So might be worth mentioning the general purpose - will you actually be using it for commuting? |

best option..
Ribble cycles...
as they build everything there they can do you a good deal and I know of one guy with a Carbon 105 set up thats cost him about 900 quid.
Its based around Preston area, but for a one of purchase its not too far from you.
I'd avoid anything online and go bricks n mortar purely so that you have somewhere to take it back to.

I'm a sucker for a traditional bike and I find the Genesis range very appealing. Clean lines, superb finish.
They get reviewed well too, usually something along the lines of "I didn't expect to like this because on paper it's too heavy and old fashioned but it is a thing of beauty and a delight to ride.". ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. If your scheme includes halfords and you're competent with checking the bike over yourself then you might want to look at the Boardman road bike range. I've got the road team (999.99) and it's a fantastic bike for the money. Very highly praised by all the bike reviews I've ever seen and pretty decent spec for the money. There is a bit of stigma attached to Boardman bikes in some circles due to the fact that most of the range is only available from halfords...

Well thanks for all your opinions guys, but I decided the best bet was to try the three I had earlier mentioned.
So off to both Halfords and Chevin.
The boardman looked nice, had all the high level componentry but just felt a little difficult to get moving. It may have been the tyre pressures I dunno. I was assured the tyres were correctly inflated.
The Mekk was lovely but just not as lovely as the picture I had earlier looked at would have led me to believe. Tiagra gearing too, so not as well specced as the other two.
Carrera Virago. Simple, stunning, clean looks. So so light. 8.6kg. 105 chainset and gears. Effortless to ride. Good adjustability in the stem and seat post too for a tall lad like me.
So I bought the Virago. Pick it up later this week.

I'm sure it was wiggle that used to do those bikes called 'focus', they always seemed to be really good value for what they were!
Also Cube bikes are nice.
You can't really go wrong getting a £1k bike from any main website, if there is discount then even better ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |
