This might sound like an odd question, but how much do you weigh?

If you don't weigh a lot then it might be that the rear shock is not compressing enough to allow the rear tyre to grip properly.

The SV650S has quite a hard rear shock as standard, and so knocking a notch off of the preload might help.

Or it might just be you need to have confidence in the bike... Smile

The same sort of thing happened to me with my Triumph, and the rear shock was so hard that I span the rear going round a roundabout. Shocked

Tell me how much you weigh and I'll see if thats the problem Smile

Hi, I weight 11 stone (no fat jokes plz) Laughing. My bike hasnt got the standard rear shock on it oh its been fitted with a Penske race shock which at the moment is fairly stiff. I through this would help keep the rear wheel on the ground oh?

Not if its so stiff the rear wheel bounces off the uneven road surface.

It would make more sense if "shocks" were called "dampeners".

Your penske shock is undoubtedly too hard.

Read my suspension FAQ and set the bike up correctly.

It is a common misconception that with rear shocks, the harder the better. This is not the case. You need your weight to compress the shock so that when it hits a bump or pothole there is movement available either way - up or down.

If the preload is too high there will be no downward movement available, and the shock will not compress so the bike will kick off of bumps.

My little setup faq can be found here Thumbs Up Smile

010s rock, certainly shouldn't have any problem with them so yeah it's either you being paranoid or your suspension is a bit 'ard. Thumbs Up

Obviously it depends on how tall you are. The Body Mass Index is a good means of quantifying how fat you are, as is the your body fat percentage.

https://www.consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm

e.g. at 74kg and 1.84m, I come out at a little less than 22. Midway through the normal category, as I am.

(6 feet, 11 stone 7-9)

BMI is only good for people who don't work out. I work out 3 times a week and muscle weighs 3 times more than fat. Therefore its very inncaurate.

Don't go out and try and get your knee down if you feel the bike is slipping, its not worth the cost of repairs and the depreciation when you go to sell the bike.

I love this how the topic can completely change. Youve got to find it funny how it suddenly goes from rear tyres & shocks to Body mass calculation Laughing
