Think it would / could be a good idea?

Could adopt a similar style to the Facebook tag, like typing @ before a members name, and it will give you a drop down list of members after you've typed the first two letters?
Then you can select the member from the list. It will make their name into a hyperlink to their profile then, and it'll also drop the member a PM / notification to let them know they've been mentioned in a thread, with link to said post?

Example;

If I was to type:

I went out last night on the R1, met up with @The Tot on his blade.

It would look like:

I went out last night on the R1, met up with The Tot on his blade.

Titot would then get a notification/PM like:

Binge has mentioned you in a post

Never seen it on a forum before, Might be too much for Korn to code IMO.

Good idea though. Thumbs Up

I'd have a "Tag" button at the top (near [B],[i].[u].[Quote]) that when clicked opens a small window to select the user then injects the link into the editbox. Having the forum send the PM to the selected member is easy enough too. Doable... and a good idea IMO, but I doubt many people would actually use it. Probably more important things to spend the time on!

I can see how it could be abused by certain immature kids on here at the moment but overall it would be useful little tool, especially in the proposed context. Thumbs Up

Hi

I can see how it can be done without major problems to code. However such scripting will hammer the server a lot more.

All the best

Keith
