So finally (and mean finally) get a decent day and a bike that is working to go for a hoon with Richie. Last week was rain checked due to some annoying electrical issues. After multiple dash resets (and having to change it back to mph readings) and a new Motobatt battery the Tuono was good to go.
So we decided to head up to Hartside Pass.
This morning went through pre-hoon check of washing bike, checked chain, checking fluids and then went to garage to check tyre pressures.
Rear wheel needed pumping a little bit and just managed to wiggle the inflator on there. The front, like hell could I get the inflator in to a position to get it on the valve tried quite a few garages to no avail.
Went round Richie's. He had a little 12v inflator thing but the needle on the reader wasn't moving so left it.
So we set off, Richie had to stick some air in. Boosh, done in seconds. So tried my front again, nope still not going on. Richie tried and nope.
It didn't feel too bad so off we went.
Got to 10 miles away from Alston and had to stop. I physically couldn't steer the bike round the tight twisties.
Push on the front tyre.......... oh shit. Richie got off bike so asked him to check and he was pretty shocked just how low it was. I'm guessing it was around 10psi.
The plan was to limp to Alston and find a garage or if not call the AA.
Me being me, I missed the turn off for Alston and ended up tootling along at 45 all the way up to Hexham (A further 15 miles up the road) via some B road.
Didn't have a clue where a garage was, so seen a police station and stopped. My arms were aching by then and needed a ciggie. Thankfully Mr Plod was walking into the station and gave us directions to a garage.
Direction dyslexia struck again as we sped straight past the turn off. Ended up on the A69 and headed back into Hexham for a second time.
Spotted a Kwik-Fit on the way in, so hastly turned round and pulled in. He wasn't allowed to touch motorcycle tyres, but kindly listened to my story and managed to stick some air in the tyre.
Mine and Richie's diagnosis was a very slow puncture so he over inflated to 45psi (36 is norm).
So I went from riding a train on rails to riding an ice-skate I tipped the bike in on the first roundabout and thought it was just going to keep going down. I think my arms were still in flat tyre mode.
On to the A69 and headed west with a very dark niggle in mind full of what ifs regarding the front tyre.............. Managed to hobble back to Newcastle and check tyre. Via Benwell where we nicely greeted by some chip eating chav who proceeded to stand in the middle of the road asking for wheelies and then quizzed us to which was the fastest bike. I was have expecting to try and barter a go in exchange for his chips.
Stopped on Westgate Road and checked tyre. Still rock hard, so hastily tried to set off home to Sunderland. It wouldn't bloody start......... damn this stupid bleeding alarm. Tried that a few times but no start. Kill switch? nope, WTF!! oh wait................ i'm in 1st and the side-stand is down ..... what a noob!
Richie had pretty much parked up half-way down Westgate road and was having a picnic whilst I re-learnt how to start a bike
We managed to get home with the tyre still having a decent amount of air in the tyre.
Richie then finally got his very belated go of the Tuono, though it was only a few minutes.
I've order a 90 degree angled adapter for the time being. Will order some Bridgeport valves for when the beast gets some new boots.
So i'm still yet to take the Tuono on a decent run out to see why it has such a reputation. Maybe 2013 will be sunny???
TL;DR Check your tyre pressures before a hoon out and make sure you have valves you can fit the inflator on to ____________________ Current Bikes: ZX7r 97 (Black Beauty), VFR400 NC24 (The banana)

Hey a thread about me.. Can I use this as a claim to fame!
Well it was... Interesting to say the least! I highly expected to be stuck in the middle of no where waiting on the AA. Still got a half decent ride out before the tyre probs.
The inflators have difficultly due to the wheel spokes and the fact that the valve housing is just a metal thread so can't manoeuvre them at all. ____________________ Current: Kawazaki ZX6R 51

As usual, Vince talks sense. I keep one in my jacket at all times, only a couple of quid and make life a hell of a lot easier. ____________________ TS50 > Senda 125 > ZXR400 > CB-1 > GSX-R1000 > Bandit 600 > ZXR750 H1 > GSX-R750 SRAD > '98 RR-W Fireblade > T595 Daytona > Hornet 900 > '04 Fireblade > GSX-S1000F (x2) > '23 XSR900 |

Yep Richie your famous
And yep Vincent & Rob W, I ordered one last night when I got in. To be honest when I got the bike, it's not something I thought about Never had the issue before.
Ink, yep it sucked. The weather wasn't as nice as I thought it would be though. It's looking like a cracking day today though. Plus with it being the derby the roads will be quiet.
Have extended a 380mm exhaust clamp to 420mm with the help of some jubilee clips (i.e well and truly bodged) so mission for today is get the race can on and hope the chip for it is working. ____________________ Current Bikes: ZX7r 97 (Black Beauty), VFR400 NC24 (The banana)

If I have a bike with twin discs, it gets a right angled valve fitted when I get the tyre done ____________________ NSR 125F > BROS 400 > NC30 > BROS 400 > Trumpet S4 > '97 VFR 750 |
