If you are 19 with a valid CBT, do you have to take the 125cc test and then the 47bhp test or can you go straight to the 47bhp test.

Cheers Thumbs Up

didn't want to start a new topic as its related...

so from my understanding, im 19 now so if i do the full test after next january i have to do it on a bike thats no more than 96bhp (or something around that mark) as standard, restricted to 46.6bhp for 2 years then do an extended test to be allowed on any size i want?

so apart from 17 year olds having a really long wait, its pretty much the same except you have to do another test before they remove the restriction from my licence?

makes me wonder how many people will just do the new test and lose the restrictors after 2 years anyway? surely it would be difficult to police and the only way to get caught would be if you randomly got checked or was spotted doing something stupid?

If you're 19-23 you can (and should) do your tests on a 395cc+ bike making between 25-35kW (and presumably not more than 0.2kW/kg or restricted from a bike that makes more than 70kW, although the DSA aren't saying that yet).

Job done, you get an A2 license to ride anything up to 35kW, 0.2kW/kg and not restricted from a bike that makes more than 70kW.

35kW is a GS500 or a very slightly restricted ER-5, CB500 or GPZ500, it's plenty for UK road use.

It will not automatically upgrade after 2 years. After 2 years (or when you reach 24) you can sit A3/A on a 595cc+ 180kg+ 50kW+ bike and that's job properly done.

I guess it wouldn't be too bad for me, apart from having to fork out for another test at a later date. I am still going to give it my all to get a restricted licence before christmas though.

I wouldn't mind a CB500 or GPZ500 but ideally I'd want a bandit 600 or other comparable 600 IL4 with cost of bike + insurance as I just love the sound of a screaming IL4 Laughing

All this stuff is confusing. It was confusing enough in 2005 for me Laughing

Thank buggery that i did my full licence back then!

So basically, you do your 46bhp test (from 19 years old?) which lasts forever but if you want more you can do another test after 2 years to give you teh powerz?

If your 24 or older you can go straight for teh full powerz?

Does this mean your stuck with a 125cc till your 19?

Didn't I read somewhere that you need to book before 20th December? They'll carry on doing the tests up till the January dealine, but any new tests booked ofter December will be under the new licensing laws?

i doubt the DSA can do that. if they did then it would be worth going through the courts to get it returned to a 2 year restriction. its unfair to do that. if the test PASS date falls on/after the change then fine, but denying bookings for it before then is utter crap.

So what's happening with the CBT? will it only allow you to ride a 50cc?

If the CBT is staying the same then the 17 year olds might aswell just ride on L plates for 2 years and do their test at 19 seeing as they'd have to fork out for another "extended" test anyway.

I honestly think they should've just kept it the same and made the car test harder. I have mates who drive cars and every single one of them has had some form of crash, whether its hitting a wall on a car park, hitting a bollard next to a petrol pump or rear ending another car. The size of the engine didn't matter, but if it was harder for them to get their licence then IMO they'd have a better standard of driving.

Should be entirely down to when the test is actually scheduled, but maybe they're just saying anything booked after then won't be scheduled until at least January 19th. They'll need some time to get the new system in place before screwing it up.

Stays the same, as far as I can tell.

...and the DSA website makes everything so clear Rolling Eyes

Am I right in saying that anyone who passes the MOD 2 on a 125 before the Jan deadline, will still naturally have full entitlement after 2 years?
