How do you guys do it?

Ive been riding my motorbike 5 days a week for 2 months now. everything has been fine, no offs, no major issues.

But today..... i was sooo fucking scared, im glad im home and alive.
Ive ridden in the dark, every night, ive ridden in the rain no problem, but today the combination of the two shit me up, i could not see anything.

1. with the visor down i could not see anything, rain on the visor meant visibillity diminished, tried wiping visor at traffic lights but no avail.

2. when i put my visor up my glasses had rain on them, could not see anything.

3. when visor down is was soo shit scared i was breathing heavy and glasses were steaming.

4. best visibbillity was when visor up and glasses jammed betwee helmet forehead so no looking through them, but i need glasses for 20/20 vision.

I couldnt see road markings, lane discipline was terrible. im lucky in know the route as i reckon if i didnt i would have been screwed.

Need some advice, so far nothing much has fazed me, we have had terrible wheather up in newcastle past two months, but this shit me up. i stopped few times to sort visor glasses out but no good.

Get a pinlock. It allows you to keep your visor down fully and not have it mist up.

Rain on the visor - you'll get used to it.

I just rode home from metro centre to Medomsley, weather was atrocious, fine misty rain and fog. My anti fog spray worked on inside but that fine misty rain is a bastard on the front of visor, ended up most of the way home, full beam with visor half open

Just put your visor on the first notch open.
I wear specs and get fogged up if I have my visor closed (like all other spec wearers) but the little lever on my Shoei lid allows me to pop the visor forward slightly and release the seal to allow a little air flow.

Also, what do you use to clean your visor?

I wont get used to it, as i couldnt see what was happening, my glasses steam up alot, and the raing sticking on the visor anyway to prevent that? wiping with gloves at lights doesnt work

i did open my visor that little bit, which stop the misting up bit, but due to rain on visor, visibillity was still shit

I clean my visor with just a cloth.

Leave the visor open and wipe while your going when it gets so bad. Why wait until lights to wipe the visor?

i was wiping at lights and when stopped Because i was concentrating on the road, normally i do wipe while riding, but not today. but wiping made no difference.

You have to make do. Pinlock/foggymask stop your visor fogging up in cold weather.

It is a challenge. One of the best rides I ever had (giggity) was a 20 mile journey at 2am in the middle of winter in one of those rain storms that only happens once or twice a year. Roads have an inch of surface water and it is raining so heavily you are soaked to the bone. I got home, I was cold and wet but I made it.

Clean it with something with a water repellant in it, rain instantly beads and runs off visor, to be fair in rain like we had in Newcastle tonight doesn't work 100% but still a lot better than nothing, just take your time and stay calm in the rain, you will be good

Normally open up vents on the helmet, only fogs up when stopped then with the air rushing through. Visor keep slightly open the rain goes down the visor and straight off the helmet leaving an almost clear visor.

ok i have had this issue before with glasses the BEST solution by far providing you are able and comfortable with it is... CONTACT LENSES
seriously there is no adjusting when your nose gets wet or sweaty and no steaming and i ride with my visor open in rain because of poor visibility through it, it tends to be better if before i go out i wash it with soapy water but eventually the visor comes up for me... and then i get a dirty wet face....... lol
if that put you off slightly imagine riding 45 miles on christmas eve 2010 IT WAS VERY STUPID of me to say the least as the snow had built up everywhere i still dont know how i actually did it riding on snow!!!

Yeah, my first ever helmet which I've had a few weeks has pin lock. When I was out with some other guys on lessons one guy was asking me how bad my helmet fogged up and I said 'dunno conditions haven't been that bad that they cause fogging up yet'.. Then he looked at my helmet and said, nah it's cause your pin lock.. apparently his had been fogging up bad on the same trip..

So I reckon the system is pretty damn good

Depending how much you need your glasses... if its really wet and I've got fogging issues and the emergency procedure is to open your visor cos at least you can blink water away - I just whip my glasses off and shove them in my pocket. Bad eyesight + blinking is better than rain or fog covered specs that you can't see through at all.

As lozza59 said, contact lenses. I got them specifically for riding my bike even though I have a helmet that has a cut away for glasses.

I don't use the contacts all the time but they are a god send in shitty weather, you are only bothered about the visor and you can ride with it partially up if necessary.

To be honest, it's not often that most people will ride willingly through heavy rain in the dark. It's not too bad on a motorway, but on country roads it's not nice at all. I don't mind it too much in the city - I find dusk to be harder work with the gloom than night proper, a lot of drivers don't bother putting on their lights and more pedestrians wander into the road somehow believing they can be seen, but it turns into a kind of surreal experience of navigating an impressionistic painting. The focus level needs to be upped, but it's not too bad.

Pinlock helps big-time. With glasses, you'll need the additional aid of the cracked visor, but like others say, do consider contact lenses for when all the bad weather comes together.

The worst time I've had was crossing the Pyrenees in April this year, a narrow twisty road with a 4x4 behind us, and going over a pass into a valley with cold wet driving rain. Visibility was close to nil, and these bends were sharp and you could be facing a truck full on around the corner at any time. Would not like to have done that road in the dark; and to be honest, we probably wouldn't have - we'd have planned our stops differently. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

Wish I could help but I don't wear glasses and we only get rain in summmer so misting isn't a problem.

I do ride at night in rain and the only option is visor down. I use my glove to wipe often. If you go visor up it gets wet inside and you can't wipe.

Basically it is just grit your teeth and ride on.
