|
|
I'm using my MTB more and more on the road and would like to fit road tyres to it to make using it that bit easier.
I don't want to buy another bike as mine is only a few years old and barely used, plus I'd like to switch back to the mud tyres every so often for when I go to play in the woods.
I have 26x2 Bontrager tyres at the minute, do I need to change the intertubes as well, and what size can I go down to for a road tyre? 1.25, 1.5?
Cheers |

well the inner tube was stamped 26x2 but I've just burst one of them while putting it back in - think it might have been pinched in the tyre
May as well buy a pair of tubes too then! |

Mate of mine did a Coast to Coast run on his GT Aggressor with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, pricey but comes with kevlar reinforcement for puncture protection. He highly recommended them.
I, on the other hand, went for Schwalbe Big Apples. Great until I went on a trail and hit a thorn! My big apples were 2'00", So I didn't need to change inner tubes, although, in the end I kinda had to. So, I decided to dremel the valve bore to allow schrader valves to be fitted and then decided to get some decent tubes (and fill it with slime).
But when used solely FOR the roads, you'd notice a massive drop in the rolling resistance compared to the standard fitment knobblies, and you'd probably gain a good 2-5 mph on the flats. ____________________ The Tot 2007 Yamaha R1 4C8 2002 Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer &

Doing really well on them so far, less knackering while riding about on the roads!
Tried to ride up a water/mud sodden track across a field near my house last week and ended up getting off and walking. Too much wheelspin and nearly falling off!
Should have gone the road way
I'm looking forward to using my bike more now |
