Fourth fail, fourth reason. Found myself playing guess the speed on a road doing a fantastic 40mph impression. Of course it was 30.

One minor for a wobble on moving off, and that's it! I'm fucking there but for a shit bit of luck every time!

I've booked again but this is really fucking me off now. Evil or Very Mad

That is so unfair that there wasn't a sign anywhere showing the speed limit. What were the council thinking?? They could have nailed one to a lamp post as the roads with 30 limits always have lamp posts on them. Or a side road showing a limit sign other than 30 would give the population a clue that their current road is a 30.

Better luck next time - and there had better BE a next time. Seeing as you're aren't repeating previous major faults, you'll pass it eventually. Just make the next one the last time you have to do it.

Seriously though - ride just a bit better next time, keep your eyes open and be safe at all times. That's all they're looking for.

OK, there's a 30 sign way back where it says 'Paygate Cottage' on the map. I may or may not have noticed this..

I went over the bridge and on coming down the other side I noticed I was going at 35 - 125s tend to be more affected by gravity of course.

At this point I had no clue of the speed limit, the only car was way off up the road and the examiner was well back. The pic shows the point at which I thought it had to be a 40. Of course I had searched in vain for a sign. Next time I'm guessing downwards.

At the end he said I had ridden well, but he did ask if I had been picked up on my speed before, or if my speedo was faulty Confused

So maybe I'm still too fast, I did try to take my time today - esp. at junctions/roundabouts but the bike is just so easily pushed up by 5mph if I do something stupid like - look at the road!

Pavement and houses should have been a pointer to 30. It happens, on a few of my advanced assessments I've missed speed signs and had to use other indicators.

As to the examiners question about the speedo, would you say you are an aggressive rider? They like steady / smooth acceleration, a few miles over the limit for a short distance isn't going to be a big problem.

Shit dude Sad

Gutted for you.

Always go 30 if you are unsure.. better getting a minor for not noticing, or would that be a fail anyway?

Either way, good luck for next time.

Thumbs Up

This is why I (although most people disagree) always offer advice to look at what your instrutor is doing if you are not sure about something. They will not break the law to keep up with you so if they are well back then you should be slowing down. This also applies if you are not sure of lane positionings etc, have a look at what you instructor is doing.

It was those indicators which got me, I reckon this road (and many like it) used to be a 40 and the limit was reduced. In my head it's still 20 years ago, the breadth of it got me thinking of 40.

I imagine 30 would have been a minor in a 40 zone, with no cars around it wouldn't have affected anyone. But nor did my 40..

I can't do December due to work but will be back in early Jan, giving me a slight chance of two more tries before the 19th. I hope there's no ice.

Hi there

One way to look at it is that you are learning from your past test mistakes as they have not been the same one each time Wink when you pass you should have got ridden of your bad habits Wink

That's sounds good in terms of speed - positioning maybe not so much as they're often in an odd place and they have to be prepared to follow us if we go the wrong way. But I'll remember that Thumbs Up

In fact I wrote them all down and looked at those areas - it's just that there is always a new one each time which is serious! And today's minor was new as well Brick Wall

Hi there

Are you doing your test at the same test centre, if so maybe going for a good few rides, looking for areas that might catch you out would be time well spent ?

I failed my first DAS Mod2 Sad love people that try and undercut you from a filter lane Sad

My next test is in a Area I worked and drove in for over 8 years, but still having a 3hr lesson on Sunday to make sure I know any areas that have changed Wink

Maybe now, I'd had a look at the maps before to try and remember the route I went on but couldn't really. Now I've found that road I can maybe try again as there were a few features I remember now.

^ This

Streetlights mean 30 (unless otherwise stated)

No Streetlights mean NSL (unless otherwise stated)

Big massive lamppost on that Google image = 30 zone.

Its harsh you failed on that one thing, but come on fella, that's just basics.

I wouldn't pay much attention to what the examiner is doing behind you, on the majority of my test he was only 2 ft from the kerb, following that I would have failed, I thought ignoring your examiners position was the oldest unsaid rule ... Rolling Eyes
