6'7" (hence my username) 15 stone.
Anyone recommend a mid-price bike for commuting and weekend fun? I learnt on an NSR125 (which probably made me look a bit stupid! Laughing ) but now want a bigger bike. Still wanting something slightly sporty though. Friends say i should go for a Triumph Tiger or BMW but i quite fancy a CBR or something. Any advice?
Cheers peeps.
Thumbs Up

CBRs are good all-rounders, as are ZX6s.

Best thing to do really is go to a big showroom and sit on lots of stuff, see what feels 'you' and what doesn't - if you're really vague on what you fancy, this can help narrow things down a fair bit.

Go and have a look around some showrooms and try some bikes for size. You might be ok with the CBR as it's quite roomy or even something like the Thundercat, ZZR600 might worth looking at.

Edit - Beaten to it.

okay, lets try elephant/bicycle combination, any better? Mr. Green

Best thing will be to visit a few showrooms and have a sit on a few, a few of my buddies are loftis and get on quiet well with cbr, the tallest being around 6ft5, a few aches on the longest of journeys but on the whole pretty good I think, he also has an africa twin, that gets the thumbs up for comfort and long legs.

Other things to think about whatever bike you choose are getting a modified seat that has a few extra inches padding on it and/or investigating a slight repositioning of the footpegs.

Now that it's winter and everybody's hibernating, they're a little less common. But sundays @ Boxhill or the usual suspects in Reading'll still happen now and then - just keep an eye on the Outings & Excursions forum, and join the South East usergroup. Thumbs Up

I can't really think of many sports bikes that are designed with the taller in mind...

Ive never met a short german so bmws are a good place to start looking Very Happy afria twins make very good starter bikes too.. not really sporty though...

Big trailies or super motos might be worth looking at.

I know allot of bikes have "Jacking up" kits available, the rear suspension is raised by quite a bit for handleing gains but might be helpfull...

Find a big bike dealership, find some bikes you like the look of, have a sit on a few (if they dont let you your in the wrong shop) and come back here with a list and we will let you know what they are like Thumbs Up

Wotcha.

One of our club members, Pete, is also 6'7" - he's bought one of the traillie BMWs, and he doesn't look out of place on it. He had a Yam Diversion ( I think ) before that, which ended up getting stolen, and the bike did look one size too small for him.

I'm 6' 3" and had a little pottle around on a diversion today, it's on the small side for me, so add another 4 inches it might just be too small.

The triumph tiger and the honda africa twin are nice 'big people' bikes, I want an africa twin at some point. The big BMW GS' are nice aswell.

On the side of sporty, my dad's got a VFR800, he's a tiny bit taller than me, and it's ok. That's more sports tourer than out-and-out sports bike though..

Just a thought but have you sat on the old VFR750?
I'm told the handling was more 'sportier' than its replacement.

Stinkwheels obscure bargain tip:

Early Triumph Trophy 1200. Big lardy sports tourer, available for much cheapness. Bloody huge.

Also consider yamaha TDM850, semi-trailie sporty type bike.
