hellooo,

i have a silly question and here it goes

i am around 20 stones and have a sym 125, am i too heavy for it ( obviously )

i am asking because( i know it sounds silly ) whenever i want to do a good start, i loose it to every biker even on 75cc let alone 125 , they do smoke my bike.

however, when i had a honda pcv model i think , which was a courtesy bike as result of someone bumping into my bike, despite my white the 125 scotter felt way faster than my sym 125 manual and could keep up with almost every 125 or scooter when had a small fun

i know again it sounds silly to race with a 125 but sometime i do just for laugh nothing serious .

now looking back at my 125, do you think it is really cheap and budget made hence why it can't even stand against honda 125 scotter ?

thanks

There is different things you need to take into account, such as the difference in bhp and weight between both bikes

i don't know if this helps

i believe they both should be around 10-11 bhp

You are too heavy for any 125, period.

They are not made with 20st riders in mind.

Does it ride? Do you get up to speed? Does it stop efficiently?

If yes to all of the above, you're not too heavy.

If you're looking for performance, look beyond a 125.

there you go , mine is

130 Kg with 10.9 bhp and 9nm torque

power to weight 0.078

honda,

around same weight (125 kg) and 11.2 bhp

also would a slack chain impact perfomance

@_Troy_ , it gets up to speed eventually but stop distance isn't very good. it sometimes struggles

i should confess , i sometime give lift to a friend but he is only 8-9 stone but still 20+9 = 29 Smile which must be very harsh on the bike and i do rag it

anyway i am thinking of getting a fazer or sv650 soon

It would certainly "delay" it. I.e slower activation and in turn acceleration.

A poorly maintained chain will absorb more power in the process of transferring the engine's effort to the rear wheel.

Loose chains will not affect the performance of the bike as much as an overly tight chain, but it will affect performance.

Sym = 130Kg
Rider = 20st which is approx 127Kg
Pillion = 9st which is approx 57Kg

Check the Sym manual regarding load, but yes I think you are too heavy for the motorcycle in question.

Personally think you're expecting too much from a ropey sounding 125. Maybe sort the chain and treat it to a service, you may even release one of its lost horses Mr. Green

It's no doubt slower than Japanese 125s - considerably slower than 125cc 2 strokes.

Add to that, the power to weight is a lot more of an issue when you've only got a little bit of power.
On a big sports bike your weight might be the difference between say a Ferrari 458 and a Nissan GTR in power to weight. Sure, ones a chunk higher, but against 99% of people out there you'll still smoke them.

I wouldn't be taking any pillions if I were you. But your weight it less than my and my wifes combined weight, and we often ride 2 up on a 125.

Not being funny but the wind resistance of a 'larger person' will affect it as much if not more than the weight.
In some situations the extra momentum built up once you get up to speed will act in your favour, so not all bad.

I am 9 stone, and when riding my 33bhp SV650 the acceleration is 'enough'. When my 9 stone friend rides pillion, the bike slows down massively. It becomes sluggish and just doesn't feel fun.

So yeah, you're probably too heavy for it.

I went go kart racing a few years back with work.

There were 5 of us, Me being 13 stone, our trainee who was 8 stone, my boss who was about 18 stone, his boss who was about 16 stone and my colleague who was about 12 stone.

The 8 stoner, looked to be on a different machine to us and won easily. The results all came in weight order.

I had a CG, it will be sh*t for you.

As the other posters have said even a restricted 33bhp bike will be slower.

And half of them probably aren't trying.

Any bike, even a superbike, will underperform with you on it. I notice my car's acceleration suffers (168hp) when a passenger gets in; when a pillion comes on my bike it raises the weight from 14 stone (me) to 21 stone and that makes a big difference to performance, that's on a 500cc.

You are 20 stone by yourself and take a pillion too... and you want to race people off the lights... on a 125cc and WIN... NOT going to happen buddy.

Take a look into a Hyosung Gt125 they are quite a big bike, and being a V-Twin they have a fair amount of torque for the engine size.

So you're suggesting he gets a heavy bike because he's too heavy already?
Also, conventional wisdom says less cylinders means more torque, not more.

Scraping pegs is not a good thing generally - as can easily lead to said pegs catching on the road and chucking you off.

Chinese underpowered crap is the main issue Wink
Well it's meant to have 10bhp same as the ybr actually - whats the top speed you can get on it?

I can barely hit 65 indicated on the ybr and i'm 14 stone
Pass tests, get bigger bike, best way, or get something that at least puts out the full 14.6bhp

You're too fat bro, lose some weight, surely you're not happy being a 20 stone blob Laughing

I'm pretty sure you won't be far off yourself Razz
