Picked up a zzr600 the other day for a small £150, has a paddock stand, working alarm and working electrics but it doesn't start. It seems like there is no fuel getting to the carb. The thing is i can't find the petcock Embarassed i couldn't find it on the thundercat either. Where is it? On the 125's i've owned they're in plain sight.

I'm guessing you mean fuel tap? I can't tell you exactly, it may not even have one which is visible with the bike together (my VFR doesn't), but if you want to be sure, just lift the tank and have a look.

Actually, if you haven't lifted the tank/found the fuel tap already, how do you know there's no fuel in the carbs?

Took tank off and all i can see is a fuel primer. Fuel wont come out the tank unless i press the primer, i thought there would be something to switch it on/off with a reserve too?

Hi

Early D model rather than an E model? On the early ones I think the fuel tap is mounted on the tank itself and not obvious. Not sure as never had a D model, but lift the tank and look for a tap on the n/s of it. Possibly not a tap but rather a vacuum stop with a prime button.

Vacuum taps will only flow when the engine is running (providing a vacuum to the small pipe on the tap).

All the best

Keith

Fisty, I don't think you go into enough detail for the OP

Lol i looked. the bike doesn't have a fuel off/on switch just a primer button which is why i couldn't find it, you have a newer model. I cleaned out the rusty tank, replaced spark plugs and cleaned outthe floats so hopefully it will start tomorrow with fresh fuel. Got a good compression reading at 150 so it no reason it shouldn't start as there is a spark. don't even have a license but for £150 i couldn't say no!

Thanks for the help, i would of spent ages looking for a petcock/ fuek tap if i wasn't told about the primer vacuum thing Very Happy
