I know charity appeals often go down badly on bcf but i figure ill stick it up here anyway.

I am a 6"2 22 stone rugby playing chef who has recently started working in a bike shop and discovered a love of cycling.

I am going to ride my bike from stevenage to cardiff in a day journey in the region of 190 miles. I will burn somewhere around 25,000 calories and it will be a rather immense personal challenge.

so this is where i explain about the charity side of things. I have chosen to support the garden house hospice because the idea for the ride came as a way to raise money for the stevenage under 17s rugby tour which i am still doing. so online donations through just giving will go directly to garden house hospice and cash donations made to me at work / in a few local businesses in buckets and through a raffle will go to the rugby tour.

I chose garden house hospice because one of the older guys at the rugby club who inspired me all the way through my rugby career and gave me a lot of advice about life in general unfortunately passed away in the garden house hospice in january 2011.

Do JustGiving take a cut by any chance?

Just thought it's probably worse than donating directly as they likely pocket some admin fees etc. Question

just giving take a 5% cut but its taken from the gift aid they claim from the government.

so for a £10 donation the charity will get £10 + 2.50 gift aid - 5% fee and credit card charges leaves them with £11.74

I hear it is easier to just put a pay pal donation in your signature, and have it paid into your own account, to of course pass on.

No, you won't.

What is the furthest distance you have done in a day so far?

ive done over 100 in a day before and not found it too much of a struggle.

and why do you say i wont ?

ive done the maths and with a 14mph average and taking my weight into account it comes out at just under 25k calories .
