Hi Guys,

I dont know about you lot but I cant help but wonder how many miles per gallon I get out of my fzr 400, I have tried the old write the millage on the receipt however always lost the receipts etc.

Tonight browsing the net I found a good site called fuelly.com you sign up (for free) select your bike/car and then all you do is when you fill up visit the website via your mobile or a computer later put in the cost per liter and how many litres including your odometer reading and it will work out your mpg !

Obviously this is just an average between fill ups but you can see it dip up and down from sensible days and the silly days Wink

Anyway just thought it might be something some of you were interested in, I know I will be giving it ago!

Cheers,

Cameron Thumbs Up

Yeah cos just resetting the mileage counter on your bike when you fill it up from empty and seeing how many miles that gets you is just far to complicated.... Rolling Eyes

Fuelly has been banging about for a while now, you can even search for your bike on the site and see what mpg other people get with it Thumbs Up

A quick search for Fuelly on BCF returns 34 threads - pretty much any thread that mentions MPG and someone will link to it. I use it not so much for my own vehicles, but more for seeing what real world average others are getting on theirs.

So taking into account that fuel companies don't like you to use your mobile on their forecourts ( and a lot of the users on here don't like to remove garments when they fill up which makes it tricky using a mobile with gloves on) does this mean you'll be using the receipts you always lose to keep track of your spend/ mileage/ fuel amounts?

Any just thought it would help someone, no harm done, feel free to delete.

I do this, except I don't lose my receipts. I need them to work out finances.

I had a very strange look from an attendent once as I asked if she could write 46 miles on my receipt. (that was going to be one of a couple planned fuel stops that day so I didn't trust myself to rember all the values. As it turns out, I didn't even use the whole tank once!) Laughing

.
Are you saying you cannot remember the reading on your trip odometer and how many liters you put in until you get home that night.? Shocked

If you cannot remember that I imagine that you also forget to take your cock out of your pants before you go for a piss. Embarassed

I have to say 'who cares'.

If you commute on a bike I can understand your interest. Buy a 125 or a 500 or one of those new Honda 700's (that have been assembled in the same factory as Victorys Razz ).

If you are worried about fuel consumption, don't buy a rev happy sports 400. Simples!

I am the proud owner of the bike with the worst MPG on BCF. At full throttle I get about 4 MPG

This is a thread where my bike's better, 110mpg on my DR125 SM - but it's still not enough!

Doing the mileage/receipt thing has also allowed me to work out how much fuel is left when that warning light comes on, handy.

I use an app on my android phone called FuelLog..

Just reset the trip at the petrol station, then when I get to where I'm going, or go home just subtract the trip from the obd reading and input the details..

Quite a handy little app really and takes all of a few seconds to update.

See it's reasons like that why I got sick of my GS 500, it was relatively crap on fuel for what it was, sure components and renewable's were cheaper but wasn't worth the agonizing boredom of riding it!

Have a look on Fuelly at VFR 750 avg mpg, when nursed can get up to 50's, when caned drops to about the same as the GS 500 but kicks out a lot more ooommmpphhh!

Yes, I hate it. You would think for such a dull bike, they would at least make it better on fuel.

Although that 40mpg is 100% city riding (so stop starting and harsh acceleration at times). Since the rebuild it has also increased by 4mpg. One of these weeks I should ride really economically to see what I can get. Maybe 50mpg tops. But still not worth it from a boredom perspective.

Just wish I could get insured on something nicer.

how is your millage so low, i was getting 60+ mpg from my gs500, tweaked carbs open pipe and ignition advance gave better perfomrance ride-ability and fuel consumption, all with town riding at the time, and went up to nearly 70 on a run

the GSF400 is getting about 50MPG give or take, with mostly hard riding across moorland.

Dolphin lovers are gonna be pissed when they'll read this thread Laughing The world's smallest violin player, just for you!

My the top worst MPG was on GPz when I was selling it, 35 MPG at full throttle with pile of black smoke behind the can whenever I bliped the throttle in front of a corner. I'm not sure but I think I might got a few dolphins to swim with its hole down Twisted Evil Laughing
