So here are the picks of my bike after my off last Saturday up the Horseshoe pass. Replacement fairing, clip on, brake levers, master cylinder, mirrors etc have arrived this morning from ebay - so I should get it fixed this weekend.

The right bar bent back and hit the tank quite hard leaving a dent so I've bought one of those mini dent pullers to try to get it out - don't know if theyre any good though?

Then just got to get my jacket repaired, new gloves and a new visor - and then wait for my thumb to heal (probably fracture) and I'll be back out.

Thumbs Up

So having just got my bike sorted and ready to go for my move down to Devon, coming off the Sainsburys roundabout this morning in Oxford, the back wheel just gives up the ghost - no brake (I was about to accelerate), no excessive speed (somewhere between 20 and 30mph. I suspect (cliched though it sounds) diesel on the road since it's right after a petrol station, on a roundabout, after some light rain this morning.

Fortunately the chap behind me managed to stop in time and helped me get the bike up off the road, and the bike started. I then carried on to a car park, took a breather, then rode it the rest of the way home.

Headed into a minor injuries unit to get myself checked out and have to go back for X-rays to check for fractures/rotator cuff injuries. Really didn't need this, as we're moving down to Devon on Monday and I was planning to drive down which looks unlikely to be possible at the moment.

Accident happened here: https://goo.gl/maps/A6hHk and the slide happened just at the apex of the turn off, with the bike ending up just before where the blue van is in the middle of the road.

That sucks mate! Good job the old boy stopped in time. That roundabout is a nightmare at rush hour even after the improvement works.

My first appearence in here

Coming out from work
Looking through the bend I was about to negotiate I found myself sliding down the tarmac

Stood up and nearly went over again
Tarmac slippy as fook
Couldn't smell diesel...but felt the same/similar as a wet petrol forecourt

Some work collegues and some from other business came out when they heard the noise and noted the road was slippy as fook

I managed to get the ignition off and bike upright before anyone managed to come over

RH side of the bike has a chunk out the fairing, can is dented and scraped, rear brake foot lever is bent and a hole in the water pump housing indicator lens broken and there was a chunk of green fairing plastic...not sure what it came from but stashed it incase I decide to repair with a soldering iron

I feel OK as it was very low speed - but am gutted that I have damaged the GPZ500

Bike is stashed at work and I got a lift home
Will get some photo's of the damage when I get her home

Shorty levers seem to have not been touched and my textiles don't show any signs not really looked at my helmet and gloves yet

A shit end to a shit day TBF

Regards
Rob

Just to add a note here, Roundabouts in the mornings are lethal . the early and low sun shines on the road and clears the ice ....apart from the bit where the roundabout itself or the trees give that bit of shade...... so the ice is exactly where you turn the power on !

CB500 down under my captaincy Sad

TL/DR: Minor accident probably not worth reading about Smile

Off to Aldi for the bike gear (a day late but they still had loads of stuff).
It was snowing on the way, but not too bad at all.
Coming out of the shop some 15 minutes later, everything was sheet ice.

I was following a lorry for a while and his trailer kept sliding towards the kerb. Passed an accident with two cars; traffic at a standstill mostly. Ambulances going down the road etc.

I rode with feet down the whole way. I had a few little slips which were easily dealt with.

My mistake was increasing speed on a flat section of road. I was going around 15mph with feet down, and thought that was safe but it wasn't. The back end just went (I was not accelerating, just cruising when this happened). I already had my feet down and tried to help the bike stay upright but my foot must've slid too and the bike went down (on to its righthand side) and slid 3 or 4 meters.

I didn't hit the floor! My left leg was still over the bike and my right foot was on the ice, sliding along with the bike - hands on the handlebars till the end.

I must've done the splits a little, and twisted my stomach as it aches a bit, but it's a very minor injury.

https://s392252994.websitehome.co.uk/ernies/cb5002.jpg

https://s392252994.websitehome.co.uk/ernies/cb5003.jpg

The damage is not so bad.
The bar end weight (think that's what it's called) has snapped. Will replace.
My new bar end took a scrape. (No need to replace)
My brake lever took a scrape (No need to replace)
My indicator lens broke. Will replace.
Scrape on engine cover - doesn't appear to be a biggie.
Tiny mark on exhaust, not even worth photo'ing.

The engine was on for a good few seconds before I remembered to killswitch it, but it sounds fine; rides fine. I'm not really worried about that but will remember to hit it immediately next time.

Someone came and helped me up with the bike, good chap.
I tried and couldn't do it on my own because of the ice, not enough grip, feet sliding!

Lots of people asked if I was ok Thumbs Up

Cause: Too fast for road conditions, unhelped by sheet ice
Fault: Mine Sad

I know, no need to wrike a book about it like I just have, but every accident is a big deal to me no matter how minor Sad

Live and learn bud Thumbs Up
Neither you or the bike got scuffed up too badly, that's the main thing.
Bit of wet and dry paper will smooth out the engine cover somewhat Smile

My first road drop!

A259 between Lancing and Shoreham, 2mph in the snow. Felt it going and failed to hold it up, ended up cushioning the impact though as well as the snow and ice. Checked for damage, looks like a couple of scratches on the exhaust and that's it. One bloke in a car asked if I was OK, nice.

I'm counting my blessings, although a four mile push home and my bike cover getting nicked today had pissed me off remarkably. Mad

update - seems my bike cover only blew off in the wind, it was returned today. I thought nothing could shift it as the elastic was that strong.. Thumbs Up

Out on the road at work when I get one of the guys contacting me

"K man, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but. . . "

One of the guys from work managed to drive past the space my bike was in then reverse into it.

Had one this morning, about 9am, on Old Ford Road. Overtaking a long queue of traffic alternately stopped / slowly moving, at about 20mph, and a radio taxi in the queue decided to turn right into a dropped curb turnoff, this one here: https://goo.gl/maps/dPNFL

I don't normally overtake through junctions unless the cars are completely stopped and obviously not turning right. If this one had registered as a junction, I probably wouldn't have gone into the side of him.

Slightly cracked up fairings on SH300 as a result, and a slight bruise on my hip, but otherwise unscathed. No marks on jacket, helmet, a tiny scrape on glove, but that's it. Taxi driver's insurance has already offered money for the bruise, hire bike and repairs, so probably going to take that deal (and no liability to me) rather than risk a 25/75 liability split if it went further.

Well, if it was wet, and I had time to do significant braking, it would have kept me upright.

But it was bone dry with excellent grip. Not every crash is caused by lack of traction!
