No chain guard?

I just got rozzered today and after the biker cop inspected my bike. He said the following. Clean mirrors and insert baffle back into my exhaust. He also said that me not having a chain guard is a 3 points offence, and advised me to fit it back on.

So was he bs'ing about no chain guard = 3 points?

Hi if you remove your rear pillion foot pegs it's not illegal it is illegal to take a pillion with no chain guard

3 points are normaly accompanied by an endorsable fixed penalty ticket so it could be that there is a ticketable offence for having something that could be classed as unsafe or un road worthy.

Not everyone gets the benefit of a 'warning' so you might be considered lucky. Some get hammered straight off

My chain is not guarded either because when I got the bike it was dented and fouling the chain. I took it off and got an advisory on the MOT. Keep meaning to search out a new one, but as yet, haven't.

Does anyone have a reference to a Construction and Use offence for this? Never heard of it being illegal, but would agree that if my chain was to break, kittens may be greviously injured.

That's the catch all offence under Construction and Use usually referred to as "dangerous parts", it's usually used for such things as insecure/rotten/damaged body work that could injure someone, you could stretch it to cover a missing chainguard.
