Have the same bangs on my 2001 when closing the throttle.
Some small holes on the downpipes which I fixed using some exhaust repair paste.
Two track session later, this happens....
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/camerazoom-20130306122842086.jpg
No more track for the day 8(
Check for any holes. Just after starting the bike move your hand around the pipe, you should be able to feel if there are any leaks |

The cheapest downpipes I managed to find was around 280 (Motad stainless steel)
If the hole is not huge (like mine ), try first using some repair paste (I used Nural 300) but any one exhaust repair paste from Haldfords will do it.
It is only a temporal fix, but it was fine on mine.
No more bangs for a couple of weeks until I did a track day and the whole section where I applied the paste blow off due the condition of the pipes. (badly corroded) |

That is a good price. How did you get it, I want in!!!
Changing downpipes requires a prayer to the god of exhaust studs. A sacrifice wouldn't go amiss. Failing that, start soaking them in plus gas now.
If they snap, it turns a simple job into a disaster. If they don't snap, it is piss easy. On your bike, fairings off, endcan off, helps a lot for access if the radiator is drained and removed too, otherwise you remove the bottom bracket and pull it forwards (better to remove, bike is probably due new coolant anyway).
Next time I have to do them, I'm cutting the nuts off (dremel, nut spitter) and cleaning the studs up with a die.
Refit using brass nuts, lots of copper grease and new gaskets. |

2 years ago with loads of buyers having grief with the chinese copies- we introduced our Venom range of collectors which are the ones offered at lower prices
3 year warranty instead of 10 years for Motad but still stainless 304 but perhaps with less time spent on the cosmetics
Dont want to sell on the forum of course- and also dont want to undermine our hard working dealers
Would prefer to discuss these "offline" - pm me or email ianmcdonald@motad.co.uk |
