Rxs 100 mot questions.

Will a bike fail mot if when cold a little smoke comes out gasket seal?

If i use gun gum to stop this does that count and will it pass the mot?

Remembering its a 2 stroke.

Rxs 100 to be precise.

It they are really strict and it is leaking from around the exhaust seal then yes, but generally no.

as far as mot testing guide is concerned an exhaust blow is left largely to the opinion of the tester with the basic guideline that to fail it must either be creating noise sufficient to disturb others or be a possible danger to other components. for example exhaust blowing hot gas's on to fuel lines.

in short providing the leak does not sound like a booming jet and the leak is not near to fuel or brake systems then it should be fine.

Shouldn't unless it is leaking at the exhaust manifold.

You would be well advised to fix it though, if smoke is coming out, air could be drawn in and make it run lean= runs hot= hole in piston etc. etc.

Either lap the head in with some grinding paste or cut out new base or head gaskets from a cereal box. It is not a big job, only four nuts to undo to remove the head. I have made and fitted a new base gasket for a 2-stroke in a pub car-park before.

There are two leaks, one is where the large chrome end can slips on the down pipe, this is not too much of a problem, gun gum and the metal sleeve should sort it.

But the second one is, (sorry for the un-technical terms), behind the exhaust at the manifold. I could use a lot of gun gum to sort it, if i did use a load of the gum and it stops the leak, will it pass?

Also neither of the leaks are making hot gasses go onto the fuel lines, cables etc and once the old beast warms up it is not a problem.

I would normally have no problem with just buying the new parts, but, i think it would be a long while before i can find the new down pipe on ebay or at a parts place.

Further more is anyone selling one?

the leak at the can can be sorted with gun gum but although it would probably get through the mot I think you probably just require a new gasket ring at the header end (exhaust outlet).

this should only cost a couple of quid and is a 5 minute job, just be careful not to snap any fixing bolts (studs).

I have a new RXS100 gasket for the down pipe to mount to the engine. Where the silencer fits it's a flange nut, and that can be sorted by taking off the silencer, leaving the down pipe in place, coat the tip of the DP and the inside lip of the silencer with a generous helping of exhaust putty, then slide the silencer back on. Either that or try and unscrew the flange nut. Mine wouldn't come off but it is meant to
