the water level would up, the quetion states "it is floating on water" suggesting the boat is boyan enough just to stay on the very top of the water

Retro, "Floating on water" is just a phrase... it wouldnt be right to "floating IN water", you would presume it was submerged then

i asked an engineer at my work place he said it will always make the level go down. he went on to explain.... zzzzzzzzz! i got a bit bored when he explained about density and displace ment.
