Just took an XJ6 on a test ride. As I suspected it was smooth as butter and pulled like a train, I didn't even thrash it an it bombed up to 70. Ok I'm no expert this is only the third big engined bike i've ridden but damn it felt good. Really planted at speed and though not as nimble in slow traffic as my WR it was still easy to get in and about jammed up junctions and dualies. Next up I'm trying an SV650 and maybe a Gladius.

I want to try the Gladius as its handlebars are more upright, the SV650 was great out of town but a pain in town and a lot of riding is in town so I think the SV650 is a no go. Great engine though really picked up well but not enormously better than the XJ. The bike I tested had a fancy little exhausted which sounded great as well. I'm going to try a GSX650F next week, they're a good deal at the moment with a £500 cashback on top of zero percent finance.

Essentially a Bandit in a frock. I found the Bandit a barge at low speeds, but that was a few years back, I could probably deal with one now.

Trying the ER6 as well?

I'm strongly leaning towards the XJ6 but I have to try other bikes for comparison, got that nagging feeling i'll just end buying the first choice (xj). Only problem is the XJ only comes with ABS in the naked version.

Mr Boozehawk, since you appear to be in the Aberdeen area, try to get along to here and ask for a spin on the black Hornet. Wink

I saw a Gladius up at the test centre last week and the instructor it belonged to reckoned they are a good first big bike.
