I have been cycling for a few months under the guise of fitness, and it has helped me lose over 2 stone.

I'm in need of a better seat, lets just say the original isn't too comfy.

I don't know a whole lot about push bikes or what the good or bad brands are. I know I need a better seat, but I have no idea what to replace it with.

Any suggestions welcome! Cheaper the better, but I don't mind spending a bit of money if a product will last.

What don't you like about the one you have and what sort of cycling are you doing on it?

The big mistake people make is getting a big squidgy one.

Seems good until you start doing distance and get rubs.

You want something your inside legs aren't going to rub on. A fairly hard, narrow saddle will usually be the best bet.

In all honesty though, it's more down to what suits you personally. Mrs stinkwheel has a really flash road bike which came with an expensive racing saddle but she preferrs a cheap and nasty one I got on a second hand bike.

I use a selle royale "uno" saddle I found in a shed on my mountain bike which is just a single piece plastic saddle with two rails. Closest thing I can see in their current range is a "Contour Royale" but it's covered and slightly padded rather than being one piece of plastic. You pretty much can't wear one of these out.

I use a lightly sprung one of the same make with a very pointy nose on my road bike whgich I got for a fiver from a bike shop because he removes them from new bikes when people want brookes ones fitted.

Both fit and suit me well for what I do on them.

San Marco turbos are popular for serious road cyclists. These are also unwearoutable.

I'm currently doing 2-3 15 mile rides a week, however I am moving house soon and will be doing an additional 25 miles tach week to and from work.

What I don't like about it is ts a pain in the arse (literally) for the rest of the day and then some light bruising the day after.

Agreed, I don't want something too springy, soft or wide. Just something that doesn't cause me pain.

Harder the better. Wear padded shorts for comfort.

Highly regarded in the value saddle stakes the British Charge Spoon.

I have one on my winter/rainy day bike. I have done 130 miles in a day with no issues.

This. I wear padded undershorts like these - https://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-pro-padded-undershorts-2011/ - they really do extend the time in saddle.

Cheers all.

I'll spend the money on padded bike shorts instead. Thanks for all the tips.

I bought a pair of padded cycling sorts as suggested. My god, they make a difference!

16 miles in 67 minutes, not the slightest bit of arse pain.

Thanks for the heads up!
