Not all but a lot of ZZR11's will be tired and sloppy by now. Maybe the rarer ZZR12's would be a better bet?

I'd probably take a nice tidy clean VFR800 over a ZZR anything though, as they are a more modern and lighter bike with some character and a decent balance between comfort and handling.

If you need to do a lot of high speed 2up fully laden touring, you might prefer and want the extra power of a ZZR or Blackbird etc.

Powerful old bikes can be quite nasty if they have a lot of wear in the chassis consumables, and also they do munch tyres, brakes and chain and sprockets a lot quicker than a smaller lighter sports tourer.

Something with a shaft drive. Depending on your budget a Kawasaki GTR 1400, A Divvy 900. Pan, Wing, Some form of BMW.

Sports tourer with good quality hard luggage and a shaft drive?

Probably not the boxer cup version in fairness but you should be able to find the standard trim one in budget, looks more like this:

Also I tend to suggest these a fair bit in this kind of thread, should mention I base it on having ridden my dads about a fair bit. Nice bike to ride, lovely engine, amazing sound with open pipes. Planing a tour to France in the late summer and he will be on his, as it goes I will be on my diversion 900, both are good contenders in that price range.

Well my budget will be 1600 ass it will be a 2nd bike with no other use bit for touring, I don't want to ruin my fireblade as it's only got 6k on the clock and being a 954 should hold it's value

If you are touring you want a tourer. The Blade will get a bit tiresome after a couple of hundred miles. I know folk do it but why the fuck use a sports bike to do the job of a tourer?

Probably bettter consumption on a tourer too.

Better for luggage.

My choice would allways be BMW (as I would even shag a BMW). Smile

I don't think he was suggesting using his blade. Hence asking about sports tourers.

Funnily enough, my r6 has better mpg on paper than a vfr!

I fucking can read. Very Happy

He dind't specifically say he didn't want to use his blade he said he didn't want to use it due to low mileage. That has fuck all to do with not wanting to use it for practical reasons.

Honest tae fuck... Some people... Rolling Eyes

Why mention it then?

BMW K1100's are in your budget range. Pay attention to condition and maintenance more than mileage-a bike with 100k miles that has been well maintained is a better proposition than a bike with 20k that has spent most of the last 15-20 years sat in a garage.

Are these powerful enough though if you want to ride 2up fully loaded at 100mph and have decent performance for fast overtakes etc?

Genuine question, as I've never ridden one or toured on one, but are they only about 95bhp? I just think that level of performance when doing long distance laden speed work across Europe would get slightly tiresome? I assumed the OP wanted more power as he was talking about ZZR1100's etc.

Well thanks for the replys I'll certainly have a look at all mentioned bikes after the garage is built, also mpg is going to be a factor at least 45mpg, I can't help but wonder how good my 600f was, bar having no low down power

Not sure if there is much/any difference between the engine in the Boxer Cup Rep and the standard version but my dads BCR with a staintune race exhaust system on it has plenty of puff, it is a very torquey engine even quite high in it's rev range. I've not ridden it that fast but I have been on the back that fast and it pulls well enough with 30 stone of me and my dad on it.
