I don't know much about our fevvered frenz but I was out on a long, desolate drone in the East Riding when I saw one of these (for the first time, yo innit):

https://www.robertcanis.com/wpblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/marsh-harrier-8_robert-canis.jpg

It's a marsh harrier - roughly as a big as a buzzard, but with a slightly more red kite-like silhouette and flight. What's more I got pretty close - about 30-50 yards away! And was just stopped at the side of the lane watching the bugger going about its raptor business. Didn't give a fuck about me and just glanced at me every now and again with a "yeah - what of it??" gleam in its super-telescopic-read-news-print-at-a-hundred-feet eye.

Bikers - enjoying the countryside when and wherever they can. Or trying to "preserve nature" as it says on my bike's tank sticker. Yeah nice one Soichiro, nudge nudge wink wink.

Probably the barn owl I hit and killed. It hit my knees at about 60mph then turned inside out down the side of my bike.

Lucky you didn't get owl pellets stuck in your carbs by the sound of things. Mr. Green

Haha really?? I remember when they were pretty rare back in the early '90s after attempts to reintroduce them. Saw one in Wales nr. Rhayader - and was surprised by how big the bugger was. Now where I live - outside York - they're almost bloody garden birds. So I see them when riding my motorbike, roger, all the time.

Not on the bike but a few years back up in the pyrenees on the border in the car with my dad an sister we saw a group of huge (golden?) eagles. They were absolutely massive, so impressive.

I see all sorts of birds every day on my way into work. I've had short eared owls fly alongside on a couple of occasions, regularly see merlins, hen harriers, peregrine falcons and kestrels as well as curlews, lapwings, bonxies (arctic skuas) and many others. Thumbs Up

There's a white tailed sea eagle that frequents the farm where I live. Came out the cottage early one morning, and it took off from my roof, swooped over my bike and completely dwarfed it. Never a camera handy when you need one.

I work by Warwick Castle, so we regularly see the birds of prey they use flying overhead. Had to stop for a family of ducks to cross the road one day last year.
