I have just paid the £150 to get my bike back and a mate put it in his trailer after the AA refused to collect it for me.
It's a sinnis Trackstar for those I haven't told...
The damage I can tell is
Front forks bent
Ignition barrel missing
Rear light smashed
Battery has leaked
Oil leak from for unknown origin
One of the rear shocks has leaked (presume its from the weight of the guys riding it off road.

Now the bike was £1500 and my excess is £300.... Any advice would be much appreciated. Thumbs Up

How much money do you have. £250 and your bike and you can have my Varadero Laughing

I worked out a claim today at work, if I was to insure my bike TPFT and claim that it was stolen, my insurance goes from £90 a year to £240, I added some years and it still was quite high, worked out overall I paid £1000 over 5 years for my £1200 payout.

Seems fair I guess, but can you stomach it.

I was hoping that on top of what I have just paid out I would just need a new ignition barrel and maybe a bit of work on the engine to sort the oil out.... So I have sweet FA

How bad are the forks? I have a company near me that straightens them.

GS forks were £50.

Forks, get straightened.
Ignition, bypass using the killswitch until you can source a replacement.
Rear light, buy a generic one and fit it, or tape all lights up.
New battery.
Source oil leak, more than likely a tiny crack or just been over on its side for a while.
Shock, grab one from ebay or buy replacement from Sinnis.

Personally... I reckon £250 would fix that up.

Fix it yourself! I've had a couple of bikes nicked over the last year and it's a pain in the arse, but insurance claims are just not worth it.

Why on earth do people seem to think that the insurance they pay for would reimburse for damage incurred on their vehicles? Insurance is not for that, it makes your bike legal to ride so that you can then buy a tax disk and that is all.

This is the tragic truth and why insurance should either be taken over by govt or regulated to hell and back.

Theft insurance is likely to cover damage caused during the theft, i.e. the barrel and even the recovery fee, but whether it would cover the forks, light, battery and shock is entirely up to your insurer and your contract with them.

Sight unseen, I'd have to agree that you should DIY it and not claim, since your excess will eat all or most of it and you'll still be screwed because you claimed. In fact, if you've already told your insurer about they theft you should make it very clear to them you have now recovered your vehicle and they should not record as a "loss".

Sorry, I know this isn't how it should be, but the system is not set up for our benefit.

But your maths is wrong. You're only taking into account the increase in premium for each subsequent year as it stands right now. But in reality, the the increase will be higher and higher each year due to inflation, insurance tax increases and general rejigging or risks.

When it comes to insurance, it's like gambling, house always wins. The golden rule is only ever play with other peoples money, i.e. only ever claim if it's someone else's poliocy.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I have decided to claims, I'll have the cross the reniewal when it comes to it be t year. I already pay £440 a year on my 125cc so next year im probably looking at 600-800, it's still 600 cheaper than a 1.0 Corsa. I don't really have the time for repairing it or know what I'm doing...

so spend a few £100 on parts or be shafted for 5 years for a claim

i bet over the next 5 years you will be paying more for increased premiums than you would of if you would have just bought the parts.

loads of people on here can help you fix you ride....even "spaz-bunny" got offered help

He gets to spread the cost over five years, effectively.

My dads mate is into his bikes so he's going to have a look at the damage later. He said the forks may be twisted which can't be resolved.....

I think there is only about 6 bits to do to get it back on the road

Whoa there. If you're going to go ahead and try and claim it against your theft policy, don't lift a finger. The bike needs to be assessed by your insurer as-is.

You're looking at weeks to get a cheque though, after they've assessed it in triplicate and decided how best to screw you over.

Everyone's got a mate like that...

I can't think how you would "twist" forks. They can banana, or twist within the yokes.

Twisting within the yokes is what I hope has happened. Slacken off the bolts, straighten everything up, tighten, yee haw.

You really want to figure all this out before getting your insurer involved. Do you have some pictures of the bike showing the damage?
