If any of you out there that know about the sales act/retail/standards etc then I could do with your advice. If a product is imported in from another country that has no british standard, EN, CEN or CE rating – is it still legal to sell that product in this country?

It depends on the product and whether a standard is required.

The items in question are deposit safes. Floor mounted and wall mounted.

I think that would be legal, but without certs noone will want to buy a knock off safe at cut down price.

Any electronics will require a CE mark and you will need to register for WEEE (best part of £500 per year). If there is a battery that'll require additional WEEE coverage.

I'd have thought any insurance company would insist on a standard of some type.
