Which Bike Should I Start With?

Hi everyone, now having worked out the cost of getting myself started as far as the CBT (planning on doing this early next year), I'm now looking further ahead to after the CBT.

As I'll probably take the DAS route, I'm now looking for advice as to which bike would be best to practice on and to take the DAS lessons with, leading to hopefully passing the full test.

So time for that old forum favourite - which bike should I start with?

Would a Honda CBF500 make a good starter bike? Or are there any others that would make a good choice for a starter bike? Plus what kind of cost would I be looking at.

Thanks everyone.

You can only practice for the DAS withoput an instructor on a 125cc bike (restricted to under 15hp).

I would reccomend an older cheap bike.

If you just want it to get used to riding and to practice for your test, a 4 stroke. Otherwise, if you want to have a bit of fun get a 2 stroke that can be or is restricted.

I wouldn't spend over a grand, about six hundred for a four stroke.

You don't actually need to practice for DAS, if anything it's likely to give you more bad habits than benefits, and on an intensive course you don't have time to practice anyway. If I'd had a bike at the time, I guess I could have gone out in the evenings and practiced, but having done 8am - 4pm of training each day, it's the last thing I would have wanted to do.

I'm sure you mentioned that you drive already, so do a CBT and then straight on to an intensive 3/4/5 day DAS, pass your test and then buy an easy-going bike and start your practicing (with a full licence). Thumbs Up

If it helps there's a search function at the top of the page

You might want to try it to see what's been recommended before.
