Quote:
Friday, July 26, 2013, is the 14th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day. On this special international day, give your System Administrator something that shows that you truly appreciate their hard work and dedication.

Let’s face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement. It’s the least you could do.

Consider all the daunting tasks and long hours (weekends too.) Let’s be honest, sometimes we don’t know our System Administrators as well as they know us. Remember this is one day to recognize your System Administrator for their workplace contributions and to promote professional excellence. Thank them for all the things they do for you and your business.

Anyone got anything planned?

What about the other 99% of the workforce that don't get any respect?

I have far more respect for people working below middle management in public services e.g. Nurses etc than a sysadmin on 25k-35k

If they're not up for doing the above then they can always find another job that they find more satisfying. There's loads out there that pay NMW so you can really feel appreciated. Be quick tho, as there'll be plane loads of Romanians and Bulgarians next year, so all those good NMW jobs might not still be available Razz

I wonder how people react if the sysadmin for the BCF webhosting company worked only 9-5 mon - fri?

I also wonder if people actually realise the number of hours that a sysadmin actually puts in...

I wish I was on £25K Sad

As for appreciation day, my workplace thinks all I do is sit at my desk twiddling my thumbs all day so (as last year) I'm sure it will slip by with no notice!

If it's really such an underpaid chore, I'm sure there's a whole horde of university graduates who'd give their left nut to do the job for less, rather than being stuck in some menial work that has no relevance to their qualification. Your employer could even have you train them to do the job before they lay you off. It won't be the first time that's happened.

The ones at my old school were arse holes. So power happy with a god complex.

They got so but-hurt when I got in to their system effortlessly, gained access to the WiFi, Administrator Password, disabled their Lanschool software, gained remote access to their servers and had full access to all students and teachers documents. Whistle

But it was their incompetence that made it all so easy. Who writes a fricken administrator in a batch file on a network drive with full read access by student accounts for starters... Laughing

I loved the look on their face when the head teacher ordered them to re-activate my account Mr. Green
