Hey BCF.

I know my answer here, just wanted to hear other opinions for the laughs Laughing

Sold a Canon XL2 on gumtree about 2 months ago. About £600 iirc.

Received a text this evening from the buyer:

"Hi David. I still have your Canon xl2 - never been used. If I could I will like to give it back to you. I do not need it. I don't know why I bought it. Ali"

I mean.. REALLY?! 2 months later.. he wants to return an item bought on gumtree.. just because he's not used it and changed his mind (apparently) ?!

I have no idea if it's not been used. I don't know if damage has been caused. This guy can do one Middle Finger Middle Finger

How do I let him down gently (or not gently)? Cool

Tell him you spent the money on a new camera.

Negates the need and ability for you to buy it back. Laughing

You are under no legal obligation whatsoever to give him his money back, so if he claims otherwise at any time just point and laugh.

And keep that message he sent about not wanting it any more so when he tries to claim it's faulty or broken or some other rubbish, you can turn around and quote him saying he just doesn't want it any more.

Take it back but with a restocking fee, deduction for wear & tear, the fact it's now 3rd hand, depreciation etc. give um £100 for it and sell it again Laughing

On ebay and similar be very careful with returns of electronics as they swap your working item for a broken one then return and say it "didn't work".

Maybe go as high as tree fiddy?

Not being funny, but does the guy seem like Special Needs? Because I can't imagine any normal person making such a bizarre request.

I sold an xbox to a guy off gumtree once, he messaged me 3 months later saying the controller was sticking and he wanted a new one. Now normally, after id stopped laughing, id have told him to fuck right off, but he was the brother of a guy who'd put quite a bit of business my way so as a gesture of good will I offered to replace it but I only had white ones instead of black, well he didnt like that at all and sent me all manner of texts telling me what a scamming bastard I was ..... I mean seriously, 3 months later...I was like "do I look like fucking argos mate?".

Needless to say he never got the controller and I never heard from him or his brother again lol.

In OPs case I wouldnt even reply to him.

This.

If you have no intention of doing what's being asked, why bother entering into the conversation? Just bin it.

He did say give it back.
Offer him £150 and resell it for profit or don't reply.

Replied out of courtesy. Thanks to suggestions above.

I know I have no obligation to accept it as a return, plus I also don't need it - even to buy it back at a reduced cost..

I would've said "You don't know why you bought it? Oh. Wait - maybe I can help you with that. You bought it because you are a total fucking knob jockey. There. That wasn't so hard now was it?"

There are some weird people out there.

Guy I know was selling his 1970 VW camper, had a chap travel from Norfolk to Chichester to view it, test drive raised the concern that the brakes weren't as good as his new Astra and asked him if it had ABS. Laughing

Mate of mine sold a tablet via ebay/amazon.

Sent it off, all sorted.

A month later the bloke wants a refund because it doesn't have bluetooth, the site sided with him and gave him his money back
