Hi I need some advice please. I purchased my bike new and have had 10,000 miles of trouble free riding, until recently that is.
The problem started one day when I was leaving work. I pulled away as usual and immediately notice that something was wrong. The bike was sluggish and it felt like the bike wanted to stall. I stopped the bike and let it idle for a while and it was ok. I had a long journey ahead of me on the A40, so I was concerned to say the least. Anyway I decided to carry on and see how the bike was before getting on to the A40 which was some miles away. So by the time I got to the A40 the bike was running fine so I continued on without any problems. Over the next few days the bike continued to behave in this way. I then stopped riding the bike for a few days taking the car to work and back until I could take a good look at it.
I checked the oil
Changed the spark plug and air filter. I thought that I had cure the problem as the bike was fine on the way to work but started playing up on the way back.
It feels to me that there is a problem with the fuel supply or maybe some electrical problem. The bike is fine once it has warmed up and I've been riding for a few miles.
Can anyone give me some advice on what it may be or whether I should use a fuel line cleaner if so which one.
Thanks in advance

New in 2011? Is it still under its 2 year warranty? ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Unfortunately it's just out side it's warranty. As I do all my own servicing it's highly unlikely that they would do anything as a good will gesture.
Would be nice to get some feed back from anyone with experience of these bikes. I would also like to get my hands on a workshop manual if anyone has one
The Haynes one only covers up to the 2009 model |

What with it being a scooter, and having done 10,000 miles, have you checked the drive belt?
Maybe the friction material in the clutch is getting low? Or maybe there's a build up of dust in the clutch.
Reason I say this is because I assume it uses a cvt, which works kind of the same way as a drum brake, only automatic. As the clutch turns, the "shoes" get thrown out to the "hub" by centrifugal force (in quotations as I can't remember the proper names for them).
Sorry if I'm way out, but just a thought of something you haven't checked. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

I'm going to do the tappet settings when I get back from holiday.
I'm going to add some Redline to the tank to clear anything from the
fuel system then adjust the tappets. Would like to get my hands on the workshop manual if anyone has one
Thanks for all your replies so far. |

If it's f.i give the Idle control valve a clean? Kinda works as an auto choke, so when it's cold, runs shit, when warm, runs better. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

At 10.000miles it may need the rollers in the variator replacing. Honda Lead scooters have them done around then as they develop flat spots in the rollers causing them to not move freely. ( Normally change the drive belt at the same time)
Itll feel like the engine is stuck in a 'high gear'.
Does it do it at all when its hot?
If not there may be a problem with the 'auto choke' as mentioned above. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

Fault codes on a 125. I despair. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Well after contacting Haynes manuals to ask if the 2009 book covered my 2011 model I received an email telling me that the only changes were cosmetic. Armed with this information I purchased the book .
You can imagine my shock when I turned to the electrical system to find that there is nothing in the book relating to the F1PGM system..
You couldn't make it up LOL .
I am now back in the position of having no wiring diagram to use for fault finding .
I am an electrician by trade and also a qualified electrical service engineer so to fault find shouldn't be a problem if only I had some reference material. I suppose I will just have to check every thing which is going to take a dam sight longer.
I have looked at the cmsnl site and although it shows a wiring loom there is not enough detail. I need a schematic, so if anyone has one or knows where I can get one can you pls provide a link or PM me.
Thanks peter. |
