Is a number plate light an MOT requirement?

Hi, my XR125 is due for a MOT on the 20th, I've gone over my bike and found my number plate light does not work. Is this light an MOT requirement? Also is it possible to tape over it/remove it to pass the MOT?

Just replace it, 2 second job. It is needed but most places are relaxed enough to turn a blind eye.

Most probably won't care. Get a few screwdrivers, one will fit

fit some illuminated number plate screws.

Only time a number plate light isn't required is if the bike has no other lights.

So if I leave it on and it's not working it will still pass? I was led to believe anything on the bike had to work to pass. If not it's easy enough to remove.

With my last MOT the guy asked me if I think it passed or not.

I said nahh, I know the plate light isn't working, but he said it's not a requirement for the MOT and it had passed.

I went through this recently. The MOT place failed the bike but VOSA phoned him up and got it changed.

Cheers, I've removed the whole light unit which was a bugger as it held my numberplate on and just mounted the numberplate the the tail tidy. I'll try fix the light if not I'll just leave as is.
