Hey i have a honda cbr 125 at this moment in time and i am turning 19 real soon and need a bigger bike so i am stuck between the zxr400 and the cbr400, it has to be one of these as i am in love with my sports bikes.I am 6,2 and think the zxr is the bigger bike both hight and width , i want a big bike as i am big and look silly on small bikes and they are both gorgeous machines so i am stuck , any suggestions from anyone ? thanks Smile

They're both over 35kW so will need restricted (if you can find any 35kW kits) or "restricted". So why limit yourself to a small selection of old bikes which are being over-valued by their owners?

If you want the look, you can get a much newer GS500F for the same money that won't need restricted. It's a commuter in a frock, but so is your CBF125.

Up from there, the SV650S with fairing lowers looks the business, or if you've got the budget, the GSX650F.

Anyway, you'll need to pass your tests first. After you do that - and take the opportunity to thrash your training bike - you'll be in a far better position to know what you really want from a bike.

Thanks for the advice matr but the gxr650 i coudnt ride that could i ? It has way too much power even restricted its too powerfull and i like a fully fairing bike and most of the 500s are small looking or they are naked bikes. I was looking at the zxr400 l9 they seem to look like the biggest zxrs and nice and clean too

Can you test ride motorcycles, at the moment? If so, then go and try some bikes, take the one that suits you the best. Thumbs Up

If you have to choose between ZXR and CBR, I'd go for the CBR. ZXR has a bit more power but honda is honda, plus these have gear driven cams = less money on maintenance.

He's not 19 yet so can have at most an old style 25kW license. I'm assuming not though.

GSX650F. It's a Bandit-in-a-frock, and suitable for restricting for A2. The GS500F is also fully faired and is bang on the 35kW limit.

You're obviously going to get a ZXR though, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't get suckered into over-valuing it, is all, when there are other alternatives.

I see, well IF you have old 25kw licence, then you can ride everything with 25 kw in the technical certificate. At least here in CZE you can and they say the whole EU's got this rule.

I wanted a ZXR myself, but it was double the money I paid for the CB1, so I went for Honda.

Not certain about the ZXR400, but if you're tall, the ZZR400 (same as ZZR600, just sleeved down engine) may be awkward. I'm 6'1", I find the pegs too cramped for my height. I get ankle ache when covering the back brake. That said, my wife had cut the seat down an inch or so, which may not have helped. So, do try and test ride one first.

You do realize that you can adjust the brake pedal? I had to raise its height on every motorcycle I owned. Smile

There's also no need to ride along covering the back brake

Hahaha, vaguely recall mate mentioning it. It's my wifes bike though, so setup for her really.

As for covering back brake, it's just habit now from spending almost all my commute everyday filtering into London... Ditto front brake. I know the whole argument for not doing this, so you're not tempted to grab a fistful and lock it up, but filtering in London is a whole other ball game.

Your back brake has next to no stopping power, and at filtering speeds front isn't going to get much help from the rear.

Correct, 99% of the time you control speed with the throttle, brakes should only be used in emergencies or at the last moment as you glide gently to a halt.
