 |
|
So I rode down to London without a hitch, then 5 minutes away from the hostel I'm staying at, I manage to crash head on into a car at a junction.
It was low speed, driver was uninjured and I skinned both knees. However the bike is fucked, right footpeg snapped off completely, radiator hose snapped puking all the coolant out and while it does run, it needs constant throttle or else it cuts out. I am definitely not riding it back 200 miles (unless for charity ).
We exchanged details and I'm getting in touch with my insurer (Wicked Quotes). What I'm worried about is the bike. I limped it to the hostel and it's now sat in the car park. I'm supposed to leave London on the 18th due to other commitments. Can I call the AA or something to get the bike out?
I don't need or want to make an injury claim or anything, would just like the whole issue done with without fuss.
What the actual fuck do I do? ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

As you can see the streets were literally awash with dead kittens due to my heinous actions.
I'm pretty sure it was my fault, should have waited for the car to pass. There's a similar junction that I pass through York all the time, can't imagine why I didn't realise this was the same setup. Guess I was losing focus after all those miles.
Insurance lines are shut now, will send em a message and phone them tomorrow. ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

You pulled an Alpha.
How I totalled my YBR and bent the frame, they didn't giving way on the CBT, green meant GO and GO RIGHT! to me
But it was pissing it down, the headlights looked stationary, then it was right there, it was crazy
-10 points
worst thing that could happen on a trip out, ouch, train back for you, should be able to get recovery home by some means, man and a van would be cheapest, or a BCFer in london with a good soul.
Good luck, hope it aint pricey, bound to be the forks at least ____________________ Fzr-600 1999

No worries, really appreciate the offer. I'm hoping the insurer can sort it out. ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

Karma for the diagram but ffs you don't need a junction, lights, lines, markings on the road or anything else to tell you what you did was stupid. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Totally at fault on the face of it, the kittens can be summoned as witnessed by a spirit medium.
Your insurance will pay out to the driver to fix all of their damage and their inevitable whiplash, emotional trauma, lost earnings, travel costs and so on.
If and only if you have fully comprehensive insurance, then your insurer will also pay out to fix or buy (write off) your bike, less your excess.
Nobody's paying for your skinned knees or anything else related to you. If you don't have FC insurance then your shagged bike is entirely your problem.
Best result is that you bike gets nicked or burns to the ground and any fire+theft cover you have kicks in.
Sorry. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Yeah, I'm the red line. Feel like a complete twunt, can't fucking believe I slipped up like that! Still shaking my head at the thought of it.
On third party fire+theft so I guess I'll have to sort the bike out myself. Needing to leave London soon is a real kicker, I'll see what I can do to extend my stay. Is there anyone willing to help store the bike for a day or two in exchange for some beer tokens? ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

Definitely fatigue from riding that far with the shitey weather. Hope you're ok and that now I'm gonna sound all vulture like:
If they write your bike off, and is repairable, and offer for you to buy it back ...

| c_dug wrote: | What needs fixing so you could ride home? If you can get it to where I work we may be able to bodge it back to a rideable state, obviously bent forks are beyond a quick bodge, but if its just footpegs we may be able to sort something. As before sw7 2dd is the postcode. |
The forks are fine, the bike took the hit on the radiator. Frame wasn't bent either. The right footrest mount snapped off completely. Will probably need a new footrest assembly.
Radiator hose snapped off the radiator and pissed a lot of coolant, but I pushed it back on and it looks ok for now.
It hit the ground on the right so the throttle is sticking, probably jammed by the impact. It won't idle either, needs constant revs or it cuts out even with the clutch pulled in or in neutral. Not sure what's causing that.
That's all the damage as far as I can tell. I can put up with constant revs and have AA membership if I do break down further along the way back. The footrest is bothering me the most, ain't fun riding without one!
I'm about 5 miles from your address, but to be honest I'm not sure if I can summon the balls to limp over. Maybe wait until later in the day when the roads are quieter?

Well I was going to sell the bike anyway at the end of the month, since I'm going overseas and can't bring it with me. Writing it off would be a perversely elegant way of getting rid of it, but I doubt my TP+FT would cover that. But yeah, it'll be for sale soon anyhow
