Stupid question maybe but is there anyway to get rid of the high pitch whining sound? I know its the cam driven gears and probably nothing i can do, but must i really resort to fitting my faddy daddy can? Cheers

They all do that sir, its part of their charm.

If you don't like it, you can give the bike to me! Thumbs Up Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The old VFR750 used to do it too. If you ever hear them from the pedestrian point of view they sound nice I think. Thumbs Up

Shocked The sound is cool!

When you hear the bike from a distance Cool.

It's one of the best bits about the sound, and those bikes. Nothing sounds the same, other bikes sound kinda boring.

If you get a race can, it will blare out the whine a fair amount, but you can still hear it. Cool

Shouldn't do, only the Hondas had gear driven cams (I believe), which is where the whine comes from.

Its not the gears, the how the gears are made. Every other one up the gear train is two gears stuck together face to face. They're spring loaded against each other so as the gear teeth wear, the springs expand taking up the slack. Hence gears that never wear out Shocked

Think quite a few GP bikes have them (more accurate gear timing). The SP2 has them as well. Thumbs Up

Ducati Desmodici: Gear driven cams, 90deg V4, alternate firing order, 6 speed box, 16 valves, DOHC... Sound like anything else (NC30 Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy)

Think it is the straight cut primary drive gears on the FZR. BMW K series bikes are well known for it as well.

All the best

Sometimes people remove the cam quietening gears which released a small amount of extra power, less than 1hp.

That would make it sound louder, perhaps someone has done that to yours.

Find someone with another VFR with a race can and compare the noise.
