C4 seems to rely heavily on these scraping the barrel type shows. Every other month, there's another 'sex' series.

It's the same old banal titillation, or freakshow nonsense.

There are so many interesting philosophical, sociological, and anthropological debates to be had, around sex and sexuality, but rather than pursuing that (which would turn off most people) C4 opts for:

1. SEX BOX

To illustrate real sex, couples - with the obligatory gays, of course - will have sex in a soundproof box, and then share their intimate thoughts, not with each other, but with a studio audience.

How this is any more 'real' than a pornographic money shot, is anyone guess. Seems to me that it is exploiting sexuality for C4's ends. No more 'real', let alone 'moral' (which C4 claims for itself) than porn is.

C4's experiment is to sex what sperm donating is to a hand job. Complete with teleconferencing after the act.

TO me, the real debate is, who defines what is real sex? What adults see as pornographic sex might well be future sex in genesis: sex evolves.

Sex today is different to what it was 50 years ago and it will be different in 50 years, when cold sex with self-evacuating robots will probably be commonplace.

There is no "real sex" to uncover. Porn is as real as anything. It exists for a reason. It expresses a part of male psychology (mostly) that is as 'real' as 'romcoms' are. Like it or not.


2. HERE COME THE GIRLS

Very politically correct pro female sexuality docu. Been done to death, of course. The shelves are full of glossy mags advising girls on good sex. There's no mystery, nor debate to be had about this, it's not the 1950's.

It is forcing on females a mono-dimensional version of sexuality (whilst claiming it promises openness to diversity): i.e. the Sex and the City worldview. In which women are forced to be 'open' about sexuality. In which women are not women unless they are aspiring for multi orgasms.

I'm not saying women shouldn't want that - of course, it's a tautology: if they seek it, they should seek it. I'm saying, women are now preached to by culture that that's what they should want, just as they were once preached to about marriage before the age of 20, etc. A woman can't be a modern women without a selection of vibrators and endless chatter with her 'girlfriends' about the subject.

More interesting would be a show about how men can get good sex.

But then that would open a dark can of worms. Because the truth is that women can be theorised as mostly receptacles for men. Sex for men is mostly masturbation with a prop. This is why men can ejaculate into anything - from fruit to a car exhaust. And porn, for men, is far closer to the 'real' sex we all dreamed of as children, when our psychology was formulated.

That's why most of us view it. No man dreamed, as a child, of being trapped into tedious sex with a hairy, overweight stinker - waving her manky vibrator in his face. But that's what most men end up with, due to the Venusian agenda, which makes it 'immoral' to replace old with new, even though that is what nature suggests we do.

I'd like to see a C4 show on how men can get better sex through cheating on her for her younger sister, or having a mistress on call, etc.

There was a big thing made about mothers having sex with their sons to help them over their studies when I was in Tokyo in the early nineties. And it wasn't along the lines of "ooh, that's so wrong!", it more like "is this supposed to be normal?"

I don't know if it's because I've gotten older (probably), but TV seems to have really, really declined in the last 10 years.

Since the advent of reality TV it seems as if 90% of TV is now made up with 'watching other people live their lives'.

Either that, or shows about the latest 'scandal' wherein Gladys ends up paying 10% more on her phone bill.

All of the decent stuff seems to have been shoveled over onto BBC Three and similar to die slowly.

From the adverts it looked a bit liked a ratings grabbing look at me kind of pathetic stunt, but from skimming over perhaps a minute or two of it, it does look like quite a genuine and informative effort at a documentary about sex. If you're interested in factual documentaries this is probably worth a watch.
